My New Succulent Plants

Yesterday, my mother left to go to the province. She spent the entire day there and returned home late in the evening. When she arrived, she brought me some plants.

I had asked her to buy me some succulent plants if she happened to see a plant store in the province.

Since she got home late, I didn’t deal with the plants right away.

What I did was watch a tutorial on YouTube about how to repot succulents.

For those who don’t know, succulents are delicate. They’re not like other plants that you can just transfer to a pot, add soil, water, and be done with it.

Based on what I watched, you need to remove the soil they’re planted in before repotting. That’s because the soil from garden shops is often hard and sometimes has fungi. It’s also not advisable to use that soil since it’s too compact.

Although I don’t understand why succulent farmers grow them in such soil, I still needed to replace it before repotting.

So that’s what I did. I removed the soil from the succulents, cleaned them, and also cleaned their roots.

Based on the tutorial, you’re supposed to disinfect them with a fungicide called Dithane. However, since I didn’t have any, I just used hydrogen peroxide.

I mixed a small amount of hydrogen peroxide with water and used it to rinse the succulents.

For those who don’t know, hydrogen peroxide is the same thing used to clean wounds on humans.

After cleaning the succulents, I needed to air-dry them for 3-5 days to make sure the roots were completely dry. The roots shouldn’t be even slightly wet because that can cause root rot.

Luckily, we had an egg tray, so I placed them there to dry.

I can’t plant them yet because they still need to dry. In my next post, I’ll share how and where I’ll be planting them. I have a nice square pot that I think will look great for succulents.
