Drinking coffee (when) the stomach is empty

Hi Hive Lovers

This discussion is a long debate that is sometimes generalized by some people so that it becomes a hypothesis or general perception that is considered to be the truth.

My coffee-drinking habit

Some of my friends have become surprised at what I do about enjoying coffee, namely that I can drink my coffee at any time and without any effects. I can drink several glasses of coffee, and on average, I can drink 5–6 glasses per day. (What is the secret to my being able to drink large amounts of coffee anytime? Later, on occasion, I will discuss it here.)

If my average sleep time is 7-8 hours in 24 hours, that means I can drink one cup of coffee every 3 hours. That's a lot for some people. But in fact, I can drink it at any time, even when I just wake up from sleep in the morning or just when I'm going to sleep.

Thankfully, my habit of drinking coffee did not cause me to experience any complaints, and I was even able to fall asleep as usual, namely by using a military-style sleep acceleration system, namely using a regular and slow breathing counting pattern (later, on one occasion, I will also discuss this here).

This time, let's focus on coffee and an empty stomach, and to equalize the perception of the meaning of an empty stomach, let's look at the meaning of an empty stomach.

Empty Stomach

An empty stomach is defined as a condition when your stomach has not been filled with any food. That means about 1 or 2 hours before or after someone eats.

With this understanding, an empty stomach should not only be interpreted but also apply when you just wake up from sleep in the morning. When during the day or evening or at any time for a period of (at least) two hours you do not consume any food, then that means your stomach is empty.

The signal of an empty stomach is that the stomach has to work, namely hunger.

What happens when the stomach is empty?

The stomach, or more precisely, the gastric organ in this discussion, according to Wikipedia, is defined as the place where food is digested and a number of food essences are absorbed by the body.

It has become basic knowledge in general (if you still remember anatomy and physiology lessons) that the stomach contains acids and enzymes to help the process of digesting food. "The acid substance" contained in the stomach is what is generally called "gastric acid."

Gastric acid is known to be corrosive, and if the stomach organ is left empty without being filled with any food, it can be damaged. That's why, if you are hungry, your stomach will hurt a lot.

Consume coffee on an empty stomach

As I stated in the initial paragraph above, I can drink coffee anytime and even when I have just woken up from sleep in the morning, and that is on an empty stomach. Of course, many people also do the same thing as me, so the general hypothesis about the prohibition of drinking coffee on an empty stomach can be considered not entirely true.

There is no research that can conclude with certainty that there is a strong relationship between coffee and complaints of digestive problems or stomach aches due to coffee consumption. Some people are sensitive to their coffee consumption, but that doesn't mean it has to be applied and enforced in general.

What I have experienced, and people like me who can enjoy their coffee at any time and even without limits, is that a person's body can adapt to what they consume, including the coffee in it. It completely depends on a person's habit of consuming something.

Coffee and stomach acid

Complaints of stomach acid, or more precisely, the problems caused by consuming coffee for those who have stomach acid complaints, are a casuistic matter.

Someone who has stomach acid complaints is someone whose stomach acid levels are higher or above average than most people whose stomachs are in good condition.

The condition of a person's stomach being empty causes their stomach acid levels to increase so that a person's body responds with various complaints, such as nausea, dizziness, and, worse, experiencing vertigo and other specific complaints.

If someone who has stomach complaints consumes food or drinks that have high acid levels, for example, orange juice, then their stomach complaints will increase.

This applies in the same way as when someone consumes coffee, which also has acid levels, especially if what is consumed is the #Robusta type of coffee, which is known to have a higher acid level than #Arabica coffee.

So, for someone who experiences complaints of stomach acid, let alone their stomach being empty, even when their stomach is full, they will still have problems with their stomach. If you have stomach problems, then the best idea is to avoid your coffee consumption.
