Soon Rentals May Become Seasonal Only
Among the things that every good SPS Stakeholder should do, keeping an eye on the proposals that are periodically published on Splinterlands is definitely one of them.
Proposals are the way in which SPS Stakeholders express their will regarding the future of the game.
Anyone can create a proposal – by paying a 100,000 DEC fee, which serves to ensure the seriousness of each proposal – and all those who hold SPS in stake can then vote in favor or against it.
Proposals are crucial in shaping the future of Splinterlands, which is why I like to periodically check if there are new ones and, if there are, whether I want to support them or not.
Of course, the more SPS one owns, the more significant their vote is, but even small votes, when combined, can have an impact. So when I see something that interests me, I always make sure to cast my vote.
Seasonal Rentals Only
Today, while checking the official page where proposals are published, I saw that, indeed, there is an active one:
To find out the content of a proposal, all you need to do is click on its title, which always redirects to the post describing the subject of the proposal.
The one you see in the screenshot above is described in this post by @clayboyn and concerns the removal of the option to rent cards for any duration other than a full season.
Until now, Splinterlands has allowed two different types of rentals:
- Daily rentals, with a minimum duration of two days
- Seasonal rentals, lasting the entire season length
The first type is by far the most commonly used by players, but it is also prone to abuse, in addition to being more complicated to manage since the card owner can cancel the rental early, disrupting the plans of those who rented it.
The proposal, therefore, suggests eliminating daily rentals and keeping only seasonal rentals.
Among the listed advantages are a reduced load on Splinterlands’ servers and an easier-to-understand rental system for new players.
Of course, there are also downsides, such as the fact that this limits players' freedom.
I even wrote a post about how important I think it is to give freedom to players in managing their own assets. However, as you can see from the screenshot several lines above, I decided to vote in favor of this proposal.
Why? Because I believe that, in this case, this limitation brings sufficient benefits to players compared to the loss of freedom it entails–if any.
Seasonal rentals represent a simplification that will certainly help new players – but also others – understand and manage the rental system more easily.
Seasonal rentals will also allow everyone, both lenders and borrowers, to evaluate the profit/cost of renting a card more accurately and clearly.
Additionally, removing daily rentals will not prevent people from delegating their cards for periods other than a full season: such delegations will simply have to be managed through a peer-to-peer system rather than being natively supported by Splinterlands.
With this in mind, as I mentioned, I decided to support this proposal, and I'm curious to see what impact it will have on renting out my cards: renting them for an entire season would be a great achievement, but on the other hand, there is also the risk of not being able to rent them out at all for a full season.
Which of these two scenarios will happen more often? Only 1 day remains until the proposal ends, so we’ll find out soon!

I Noleggi Potrebbero tra Poco Diventare Solo Stagionali
Tra le cose che ogni bravo SPS Stakeholder deve fare c'è sicuramente il tenere d'occhio le proposals che periodicamente vengono pubblicate su Splinterlands.
Le proposals sono infatti il modo in cui gli SPS Stakeholders esprimono la propria volontà sul futuro del gioco.
Tutti possono creare una proposal - pagando una commissione di 100.000 DEC, che ha lo scopo di assicurare la serietà di ogni proposta - e tutti coloro che detengono SPS in stake possono poi votare in favore o contro di essa.
Le Proposals sono fondamentali per forgiare il futuro di Splinterlands e per questo periodicamente mi piace controllare se ce ne sono di nuove e, ove ce ne siano, se voglio sostenerle oppure no.
Ovviamente tanti più sono gli SPS che uno possiede tanto più rilevante è il voto espresso, ma anche piccoli voti, se sommati, possono avere un peso, per cui quando vedo qualcosa che mi interessa procedo sempre a lasciare il mio voto.
Noleggi solo stagionali
Andando oggi a controllare la pagina ufficiale dove vengono pubblicate le proposals ho visto che, per l'appunto, ce n'è una attiva:
Per scoprire il contenuto di una proposal è sufficiente cliccare sul suo titolo, che reindirizza sempre al post in cui è descritto l'oggetto della proposal stessa.
Quelle che vedete nello screen sopra è descritta in questo post di @clayboyn e riguarda la rimozione della possibilità di noleggiare le carte per un periodo di tempo di diverso da una stagione.
Fino ad oggi su Splinterlands era infatti possibile scegliere due diversi tipi di noleggio:
- quello giornaliero, che aveva durata minima di due giorni
- quello stagionale, con durata corrispondente alla lunghezza di una stagione
Il primo tipo è di gran lunga quello più utilizzato dai giocatori, ma si presta anche ad essere abusato, oltre ad essere più complicato da gestire perchè chi noleggia una carta ha la possibilità di cancellare in anticipo il noleggio, così scombinando i piani di chi l'aveva presa a noleggio.
La proposal prevede perciò di eliminare questo tipo di noleggio giornaliero e lasciare solo quello stagionale.
Tra i vantaggi elencati vi è un minor carico per i server di Splinterlands ed una maggiore facilità di comprensione del sistema dei noleggi per i nuovi giocatori.
Ovviamente vi sono anche degli aspetti negativi, come ad esempio il fatto che questo limita la libertà dei giocatori.
Ho addirittura scritto un post sul quanto io ritenga importante dare libertà ai giocatori sul come gestire i propri assets, ma, come potete vedere dallo screen ormai diverse righe sopra, ho deciso di votare a favore di questa proposal.
Perchè? Perchè credo che, in questo caso, questa limitazione apporti sufficienti benefici ai giocatori rispetto alla perdita di libertà che comporta - ammesso che ne comporti.
I noleggi stagionali rappresentano una semplificazione che sicuramente aiuterà i nuovi giocatori - ma anche gli altri - a capire e gestire con maggior semplicità il sistema dei noleggi.
I noleggi stagionali consentiranno anche a tutti, sia lenders, che borrowers, di valutare in modo più preciso e chiaro il guadagno/costo derivante dal noleggio di una carta.
Il rimuovere i noleggi giornalieri, inoltre, non impedirà alle persone di delegare le proprie carte per periodi di tempo diversi da una stagione: semplicemente tali delegazioni dovranno essere gestite mediante un sistema peer-2-peer invece che essere supportate nativamente da Splinterlands.
Alla luce di ciò ho deciso di supportare, come dicevo, questa proposal e sono curioso di vedere che conseguenze avrà sul noleggio delle mie carte: noleggiarle per un'intera stagione sarebbe un grande risultato, ma d'altra parte ci sarà anche il rischio di non riuscire a noleggiarle per un'intera stagione.
Quali di questi due eventi accadrà più spesso? Manca solo 1 giorno al termine della proposal, per cui ancora poco e lo scopriremo!
