Ratan Tata, the Indian business tycoon and One of the greatest philanthropists of all time and a man who made the cars affordable in India to middle class people, is no more as he breathed last in Mumbai on 9th October.

Ratan Tata is known for his simplicity, never married and devoted all his life in betterment of society and inventions and business ideas and philanthropy works throughout his life.

Ratan Tata was born in Bombay (now known as Mumbai) in Maharashtra state of India to a Parsee couple Naval Tata and Sooni Tata in 1937 and completed his schooling in Mumbai, Shimla in Himachal Pradesh state and later in Ney York City and did his Bachelors in Archeology from Cornell University in New York, USA.

After his graduation, Ratan Tata started as a manager in Tata group and his dedication and hard work made him the chairman of the same Tata Group in 1991 and he never looked back after that and worked towards making Tata Group a business conglomerate not just in India, but Worldwide.

Ratan Tata was a great music lover with his favorite genre were, western classic and jazz as he revealed in an interview.

One of the dreams of Tata was to make cars affordable to everyone. After the success of Tata Indica car, which was First launched in 1998and went to becomes One of the most sold cars with a diesel version and was the First passenger hatchback which was developed indigenously in India and this success led Ratan Tata to bring Tata Nano into market to make it affordable to everyone.

One of the significant acquisitions of Tata Motors is the acquisition of Jaguar Landrover as a major foreign brand acquisition and apart from this, Tata Tea acquired Tetley and Tata Steel acquired Corus thus making Tata as an International brand removing the tag of Indian brand.

Ratan Tata was not just a business tycoon, but he was known for his philanthropy works and it is remarkable to note that, he was into Philanthropy even before the Bill Gates started philanthropy and Rata Tata is known to have contributed approximately US$ 1.9 Billion in charity.

Ratan Tata himself has made huge contributions to noble causes including his US$50 million to his alma matter Cornell University.

Ratan Tata was not just known for his contributions to universities, he also donated generously to Prime Ministers Covid Relief Fund during covid pandemic and the amount is said to be 15 Billion US Dollars and that is One such example.

All in all, his philanthropy works thru his trusts were into the fields of education, scientific research, rural development and health care in major.

Awards:

Rata Tata has received various awards from India and other countries.

Indian Government conferred him with Padma Vibhushan, Second highest Indian civilian award in 2008, and he received various awards from other countries with significant Ones being Honorary Knight Commander of the Order of British Empire by Britain, Grand Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic by Government of Italy, Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun by Japan Government being prominent ones and he also received about 18 honorary fellowships or doctorates from various Indian and foreign universities.

Tata groups has about 29 public listed companies all over the world with services in over 150 countries with a networth of 33.7 trillion Indian Rupees which equals to US$403 billion.

Now, we can see why Ratan Tata never made it to the Billionaires list, because, his wealth is forwarded to the Tata Trusts and the networth and philanthropy amount is also counted from Tata Trusts.

The list goes and the legacy of Ratan Tata lives on, he will be remembered for many many years and he will be the icon and role model for generations to come and his legacy will go on no matter he is there or not.

India will consider him the father of modern industrialization and great philanthropists of all time and also remembered for his simplicity inspite of building such huge business conglomerates.

It's very rare that, such big business tycoons leads from the front in philanthropy works and also leads simple life.

As he moves towards heaven, it's just my humble salute to the great son of India and great philanthropist the World has seen and is going to be missed.
