I recently had a fun battle in Splinterlands and even though my opponent used higher level cards that were advantageous for the battle rules, I managed to come out victorious with my strategy.
Link to the Battle
This battle took place in the Diamond 3 league and as you can see some of my opponent's cards are at maximum level while mine are at the gold/silver league level. Although the level of the card does not define victory in a battle, it does give a great advantage in the battle since the level gives the cards better stats and more abilities, but the strategy will always be the most important part in a battle in Splinterlands.
In this battle there is only 1 rule and it is Earthquake.
Earthquake - In this rule, all monsters that do not have the Flying ability will receive 2 physical damage at the beginning of each round, starting from round 2.
This is a rather annoying rule to have in battle because you end up at a disadvantage if you do not use monsters with the Flying ability or if you use monsters with low health, so in battles with little available mana this rule becomes even worse.
In this battle, I was unlucky because the available mana was low, but I managed to develop an interesting strategy with the mana I had available and even using only 1 monster with the Flying ability, I was confident that I would come out victorious.
My strategy works as follows:
Possibilus The Rise - This was the summoner I chose for the battle, he will increase the health of my monsters by +2 and grant them the abilities Reach and Trample.
The abilities Reach and Trample won't be useful for my monsters since I only have 1 melee monster and it has the ability Sneak, so these 2 abilities are useless for it and the main reason I chose Possibilus The Rise was to increase the life of my monsters since they will need to survive the damage from the Earthquake Rule.
Baakjira - This was the monster I selected to be the tank in my battle, it has no attack but will be very useful in defense since it has a large amount of life and the ability Heal that makes it heal 1/3 of its maximum life 1x per round. In addition to the ability Heal, Baakjira has the ability Void that will reduce magic damage received by half, the ability Slow that will reduce the speed of enemy monsters by -1 and the ability Strengthen that will increase the life of my monsters by +1.
Triage - This monster has a ranged attack and its main function will be to help my backline monsters survive with its Triage ability, which heals the backline monster that received the most damage by 1/3 of its maximum life 1x per round.
Pelacor Bandit - This is my only monster with a melee attack in battle and also my only monster immune to the Earthquake rule since it has the Flying ability. The Flying ability will give the Pelacor Bandit +25% chance to dodge melee and ranged attacks from monsters that do not have the Flying ability. The Pelacor Bandit also has the Sneak ability and it makes it target the opponent's monster positioned in the last position.
Igor Darkspear - This monster has a ranged attack and its function will be to apply Stunned to my opponent's monsters with its Stun ability.
Torrent Fiend - This monster has a melee attack but will not be able to attack in this position and its only function is to defend the backline and monsters that have the Sneak or Opportunity ability.
Doctor Blight - This monster has a magical attack and its function will be to cut off the healing of my opponent's monsters with its Affliction ability. Doctor Blight also has the Camouflage ability, which makes him a target for attacks only when he is in the first position. He also has the Poison ability, which gives him a 50% chance of poisoning the enemy monster when he hits the attack, and the Scavenger ability, which gives him +1 life when any monster is defeated in battle.
With these monsters, I have a good defense in the Frontline and Backline. My strategy was to keep the Pelacor Bandit in a position where he would be safe, since he would be my greatest hope in the battle because he does not suffer any damage from the Earthquake rule. In addition, he is my monster that deals the most damage.
I have to admit that choosing monsters with ranged attacks wasn't the best choice since my opponent had the summoner Ilthain, but there was no way of knowing and even so my strategy turned out as I wanted and with the help of the Angelic Mandarin monster's ability Triage, the battle became even easier because it made it easier for my backline monsters to survive.
After 5 rounds and even though my opponent seemed to have the advantage in the battle, I managed to emerge victorious and in the end my monsters Baakjira, Pelacor Bandit and Doctor Blight remained, they were the 3 monsters that had the greatest chance of surviving the battle since they had great survival abilities.
