Saving the Backline

in Olio di Balena4 days ago (edited)

I recently discovered that strategies with the Taunt ability are very useful in battles, especially if you combine it with some healing abilities and use a monster with a lot of life.

There are many monsters with the Taunt ability, so I'm testing strategies in each deck to see which one would be the most efficient. Today I tested with the life deck and the monster I selected was The Kraken, since in addition to having a lot of life, it also has a powerful attack and armor. The reason I selected the water deck first is because it has the Angelic Mandarin monster, it is a monster that will be very useful to keep The Kraken alive in battle and its mana cost is low, so it is a great choice for this strategy.

The strategy may seem a little confusing, but I'll explain how it works, but first, let's talk about the battle rules.

Standard - In this "rule" there are no rules in battle so all cards will not be affected by buffs, debuffs or any harmful mechanics, they will be free.

The focus of my strategy is The Kraken and the ability Triage, I will explain how it works.

Possibilus the Wise - This was the summoner I chose for the battle, he will increase the life of my monsters by +2 and grant them the abilities Trample and Reach. The ability Trample will only work with melee monsters and it will make them attack a second time after defeating a monster. The ability Reach will make melee monsters able to attack in the second position.

Baakjira - This monster will be my main defense after The Kraken, I selected him in the first position because my opponent's monster positioned in the first position will focus on him and this will be beneficial for The Kraken because he will receive less damage and have a greater chance of survival. Baakjira has the ability Heal, which heals him by 1/3 of his maximum life once per round, so he can resist attacks more easily.

The Kraken - This is the star of the battle and at this level he only has the ability Taunt, which means he will be the main target of my opponent's attacks.

Deeplurker - This monster has the ability Opportunity, which means he will attack my opponent's monster with the least life. I selected him so that he would eliminate my opponent's most vulnerable monsters, so The Kraken would receive fewer attacks and have a better chance of surviving.

Spirit Hoarder - This is my first monster with the ability Triage, and this ability makes the Spirit Hoard heal the monster in the backline that suffered the most damage by 1/3 of its maximum life once per round, in this case it would be The Kraken, so its main function is to increase The Kraken's chances of surviving by healing it. The Spirit Hoarder also has the Blind ability, which means that my opponent's monsters will have a +15% chance of missing their attack while the Spirit Hoarder is in battle.

Angelic Mandarin - This is my second monster with the Triage ability, and just like the Spirit Hoarder, it will have the function of keeping The Kraken alive in battle.

Doctor Blight - This monster has the Camouflage ability, so it will only be targeted by my opponent's attacks when it is in first position. Its function is basically to cause damage. It doesn't have much attack, but it has the Posion ability, which gives it a 50% chance of poisoning the monster it attacks. Poisoned monsters take 2 damage at the start of each round.

With 2 monsters with the ability Triage in the battle and with the amount of life of The Kraken, I am confident that my opponent will not have an easy time defeating my strategy. In addition to a great defense, The Kraken is also an excellent monster for dealing damage. Since the summoner Possibilus the Wise gives it the ability Reach, it will be able to attack in second position while being healed by my other 2 monsters.

Just like me, my opponent also used a monster with the ability Taunt, but without having any monsters to support it, it was easily defeated by my other monsters. After that, my opponent's monsters were quickly defeated one after the other.

In the end, my opponent did not resist for long and although The Kraken suffered a lot of damage, with the help of the Spirit Hoarder and the Angelic Mandarin, it managed to survive this battle.
