Good evening everyone Hivers! In the past few days I visited Matera for the third time, I have already made a couple of posts here on Hive, unfortunately the second one failed and I had to delete the content. So no one will see my photos of Matera at night, I played it wrong and it was my mistake :)
Anyway beyond that, if you have never been to Matera I strongly recommend you do it at least once in your life. Matera is a magical place that evokes truly unique and special sensations and emotions!
A bit of history!
Matera is an Italian city of about 60,000 inhabitants, the provincial capital of Basilicata, which together with Potenza are actually the only two regional capitals of Basilicata. So when they ask you the provinces of Basilicata during the geography question you can't go wrong, there are only two lol
Matera is known to the world for its characteristic and historical 'Sassi', recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The 'Sassi' are truly unique, something indescribable, something not perceivable through mere images. You have to experience them.
In 2019 Matera was put under the magnifying glass after being named European Capital of Culture for the year 2019. The success, easily predictable to tell the truth, was truly incredible. A gigantic flow of tourists arrived in the city and literally every newspaper in Europe, but I believe also worldwide, reported Matera among the most beautiful and evocative cities in the world.

At the end of the game, the sums are being drawn. It was a truly incredible two days. Matera really fascinates me and every time I arrive in the city I am reminded of Mel Gibson's FIlm: The Passion of the Christ (which was filmed in Matera - fun fact-).
Beyond that, Matera is incredible. I cannot find the right words to describe it. Matera is something you really have to experience, you have to go there, you have to visit it, you have to live it.
I had a great time in a B&B practically in the centre, with every comfort, at a very reasonable price.
The only negative thing, perhaps my fault, was the 40-minute walk from the Flixbus stop to the centre and back. There were city buses scheduled but I couldn't catch them, perhaps also due to Google Maps which sent me to other streets where the very lines I needed didn't pass.
But apart from that everything was really nice.
Appendix on the food: being Lucano myself (from Basilicata) in the end I didn't find big differences with the typical food despite being from the province of Potenza. Apart from the bread, the Materano bread is really exceptional, all in all the dishes are almost the same. Except for a few dishes with a visible Apulian influence, see Orecchiette alle cime di Rapa lol
The dish I liked best was undoubtedly Fave e Cicoria, a traditionally poor but really good dish. Personally, I often eat it at home, my mother prepares it sometimes because she likes to revive traditions. So nothing new for me, but if you go to Matera, you absolutely must try it. Don't fall into the tourist trap of pizza or buffalo mozzarella, mind you, which are not traditional Lucanian dishes but Campanian ones.
That said, I hope you enjoy this last part. Unfortunately I had problems with the second post, but that's OK, accidents happen. I will treasure the experiences and advice I have received and see if I can improve in the future.

Buonasera a tutti Hivers! Nei giorni scorsi ho visitato per la terza volta Matera, ho già fatto un paio di post qui su Hive, purtroppo il secondo è stato fallimentare ed ho dovuto cancellare il contenuto. Quindi nessuno vedrà le mie foto di Matera di notte, me le sono giocate male ed è stato un mio errore :)
Comunque al di là di questo, se non siete stai mai a Matera vi consiglio fermamente di farlo almeno una volta nella vita. Matera è un posto magico che rievoca sensazioni ed emozioni davvero uniche e particolari!

Matera è conosciuta al mondo per i suoi caratteristici e storici "Sassi", riconosciuti come Patrimonio dell'Unesco. I "Sassi" sono davvero unici nel loro genere, qualcosa di indescrivibile, qualcosa di non percepibili attraverso le semplici immagini. Bisogna viverli.
Nel 2019 Matera è stata messa sotto la lente d'ingrandimento dopo essere stata nominata Capitale della Cultura Europea per l'anno 2019 appunto. Il successo, facilmente pronosticabile a dire la verità, è stato davvero incredibile. Un flusso gigantesco di turisti è arrivato in città e letteralmente ogni testata giornalistica europea, ma credo anche mondiale, riportava Matera tra le città più belle e suggestive del mondo.

Resoconto finale del mio viaggio
Alla fine dei giochi, si tirano le somme. Sono stati 2 giorni davvero incredibili. Matera mi affascina davvero tanto e ogni volta che arrivo in città mi viene in mente il FIlm di Mel Gibson: La Passione di Cristo ( che è stato girato a Matera - fun fact-).
Al di là di questo, Matera è incredibile. Non riesco a trovare le parole giuste per descriverla. Matera è qualcosa che va realmente vissuta, bisogna andarci, bisogna visitarla, bisogna viverla.
Mi sono trovato benissimo in un B&B praticamente in centro, dotato davvero di ogni comfort, ad un prezzo molto ragionevole.
L'unica cosa negativa, forse per colpa mia, sono stati i 40 minuti a piedi per arrivare dalla fermata del Flixbus al centro e viceversa. Erano previsti dei pullman cittadini ma non sono riuscito a prenderli, forse anche colpa di Google Maps che mi ha mandato per altre strade dove proprio le linee che mi servivano non passavano.
Ma comunque a parte questo è stato davvero tutto bello.
Appendice sul cibo: essendo io stesso Lucano ( della Basilicata) alla fine non ho trovato grosse differenze con il cibo tipico pur essendo io della provincia di Potenza. A parte il pane, davvero eccezionale quello Materano, tutto sommato le pietanze sono quasi le stesse. Tranne che per qualche piatto con visibile influenza pugliese, vedi Orecchiette alle cime di Rapa lol
Il piatto che mi è piaciuto di più è stato senza dubbio Fave e Cicoria, un piatto tradizionalmente povero ma davvero buono. Personalmente lo mangio spesso anche a casa, mia madre lo prepara a volte perchè a lei piace rievocare le tradizioni. Quindi per me nulla di nuovo ma se andate a Matera dovete assolutamente provarlo. Non cadete nella trappola per turisti della pizza o della mozzarella di bufala, mi raccomando, che non sono piatti tradizionali Lucani ma Campani.
Detto ciò, spero che questa ultima parte vi piaccia. Purtroppo ho avuto problemi con il secondo post, ma va beh ci sta sono incidenti di percorso che possono capitare. Farò tesoro delle esperienze e dei consigli ricevuti e vedrò di migliorare nel futuro.
