What Have You Learned from Being on Hive?

Someone voted on one of my posts several times before. The fact that they voted a few times indicated that they had read my posts and were not a bot or a random curating account, so I decided to be intentional and find out who they were after procrastinating for a long time.

While checking, I decided to read some of their posts, and I discovered that they have some excellent posts. So I decided to click "follow" only to discover that I was already following them. I began to wonder why I had already followed them but never interacted with them.

However, they had some lengthy but informative and interesting posts. Their command of English was astounding; they wrote like pros and were able to captivate audiences. Many people do not have a long attention span, unless they come across something interesting.

Attention Span

However, only a few people have the ability to keep a reader's attention while writing a 1500 to 2000-word post. I can not do it; sometimes I try, but it is clear from the type of comment you get that someone did not read the post and simply commented.

This person's posts were not like that; I was entertained, thrilled, and informed after reading one of them. The other readers were clearly entertained, as was I, and I discovered that a good command of the English language can be a flex.

I know because I once attended a village high school where I was the only student with a good command of the English language, and I felt like a king among them.

This was not the case at first because I was born in a small town where most people never spoke English, and I probably did not start speaking until I was about six or seven years old, so going from not being able to speak at all to having an average command of the language only demonstrated one thing: the ability to learn.

The Ridiculous Need For Knowledge

This post is about the need to learn, not the English language. There are some posts on Hive that I read and immediately realize I have learned something. I also see entertainment as comical knowledge gained in an amusing manner.

I have learned a lot on Hive, and I have done so by following some of the chain's best creators.

From 2017 to 2021, we primarily focused on the rat race of earning upvotes, looking for the next big and benevolent whale to become a next of kin to. However, I realized that if I had chosen to learn more, I could have avoided many of the costly mistakes I made in the past.

Let me explain using an analogy.

If you give a four-year-old child five to ten one-dollar currency notes and only one hundred dollar note. They are likely to go for quantity. This is because, in the child's mind, "more" means value, not realizing that "less" can be voluminous than "more."

It is like eating at night and skipping breakfast and lunch, only to develop a health complication as a result of trying to save money on food. When you have knowledge, resources can bend to your will. You can accomplish the impossible with the right knowledge.

1000513513.jpg

Let us be factual There are many people who lack knowledge; you can hear them shouting their ideas and sentiments, and many people are likely to follow them because they have a large audience.

For example, it can be difficult to follow the advice of someone with little or no influence. We believe that if they had more knowledge, they could have led or influenced a large group of people.

However, you must properly curate the sources of knowledge you use to avoid being misled. There are loud and sensible voices everywhere, including on Hive. Choosing knowledge over everything may seem illogical at times, but it is the best option.

Knowledge is the best shortcut life can offer.

There are experienced business-minded people on Hive, as well as experienced crypto creators, and to be honest, these guys influence some of my real-life decisions. Now, I may be mistaken in my convictions, but as we gain more knowledge, the previous ones become increasingly redundant.

Knowledge is the death of another knowledge, which is why we unlearn and relearn. You cannot relearn what you have not previously learned. It simply means that you cannot store new food in a dirty environment.

X is also an excellent learning platform.

....however, I would not have known if Hive had not provided me with this information. To summarize, extensive knowledge is required in all sectors. For example, the regular Joe's who are excited about crypto don't even know much.

How can you love a woman just by looking at her smile? What if she is terrible in other areas of life? It is impossible not to know who you love. If you are passionate about something and want to benefit from it, devote an unhealthy amount of time to learning everything you can about it, and it will pay off in the end.

I implore you to learn more; Hive is an encyclopedia of people, knowledge, and experience that goes beyond the rat race of votes.

This is where the sentence LEARN, UNLEARN AND RELEARN, becomes lucid. Knowledge is very key, having a command of language is also very important, which is the ability to share, teach and influence another person with the wisdom one has. A knowledgeable man without the command of language cannot share anything.

Thanks for sharing

Yes, I agree, sometimes you need the command of a certain language to share knowledge, if not, an audience might not even understand the knowledge a potential creator aims to pass across

Very interesting article.

No one knows everything, and no one ever will. Welcome to the human condition. lol

There are posts that I do learn things, and it's a lot of of fun. Some posts lack intellectual content but are funny. But if you look hard enough there is always something new to learn every day. I follow several people I don't interact with, and it may be that they became less active or just weren't responsive anymore. And you definitely don't want to try to read a 2,000 word post from me, I'd probably put myself to sleep writing it.

Great post as always my friend!

You're right, we're definitely, constantly learning and honestly I'm lucky to have followed some good creators. Although I might just read and pass. Sometimes I don't follow for follow. I just follow if I know I'll be learning. I mostly don't follow because someone followed me, also, I don't expect the people I follow to follow me as well. Most times I think when people follow others for the purpose of learning I think it works better.

I'm not sure I've written more 2000 words more than once or twice since I've been here going to 8 years.

Attention span is more and more of a problem nowadays, and it becomes obvious on Hive as well. But as you remarked, there are people who know and can keep their audience entertained for a longer post or video. Not many can these days. The style matters, the expertise matters, the willingness to say the right things or on the contrary, to avoid controversial topics, everything matters. And usually the most successful know their audience well or they cater to a certain type of people and interests until the audience becomes what they cater to.

Haha well I think there are creator that just focuses on creating what their audience wants. I don't think there's anything wrong with this, afterall there's a sense of appeal that comes with knowing that someone appreciates a certain thing you've created and find value in them.
In my situation, my attention span is mostly 100% if it's on a subject I'm very much interested to learn from.

Yes, but that becomes a rare type of focus nowadays. I'm often like that when I find something that interests me.

Thanks a million

If you are passionate about something and want to benefit from it, devote an unhealthy amount of time to learning everything you can about it, and it will pay off in the end.

This is why I always enjoy your posts and some others here on Hive because you speak the truth here. I love spending even if just a few minutes but with seriousness because I know how I have gained a lot here. Hive isn't just a place to post only for the reward but as you just said, it's an encyclopedia of people, knowledge etc..

I do say Hive is more like Medium too because you get things to take home from seasoned authors.

Thanks. Yes. Me too, I've learned a lot from reading stuffs from people here and how I wish I dedicated that time to learn more in the past. It's better to know how things works. There are people here who dailyily share moneymaking opportunities off Hive as well and many other things.
So it's just logical, anyone who dedicates time and effort will learn and it'll pay off in the long run

The need to learn cannot be overemphasized. And there's a lot of learning opportunities afforded to us on hive. Like you said a person may not have a lot of knowledge to give but they have a large following. While someone may have lesser followers but has a lot of valuable information to pass across. Its important to note this. We should learn not to judge a book by its cover.

Yeah. I think we live in a world where large following automatically makes anyone an influencer and worthy to be followed. So it's a world of influencers

Reading a long article is like a chore these days, especially when the article is not relatable and there's nothing to learn 😅....
Honestly Hive is such a great platform and it goes beyond just the pay. Sometimes I even go and browse about a certain topic to learn more just so I could put my words right. It's a platform to grow

The long contents about crypto is recommended because seriously crypto is a subject some people will easily shy away from despite the fact that the need the knowledge. Crypto knowledge is gain.

Yes, there's always something new to learn when it comes to crypto, but it's a very complicated topic that needs special attention to be able to understand so I understand why people shy away from it

I think there is a lot of things to learn and I think Hive has been good in that regard. I think I learned the most about crypto here...because I didn't have too good of a grasp over it before joining Hive. I can relate to the long posts, and I agree that attention span is tough.

Yeah, attention span is tough. However I do think it might depend on topic. When I need to learn, I don't care if the post is long I just go right ahead to read.

Well, many things I'm learning about the crypto universe I'm learning from people on Hive, both from posts or by talking directly to them.
I've got here with no interest in crypto except for creating music NFTs and now I'm investing in Hive eheh

Yeah, many people come for different type of things but eventually ends up needing to learn about Hive and crypto eventually.

Great information ℹ️ also love your desk of tech.

Thanks, I love it as well.

That Proof of Stake is a flawed governance.

PoW isn't perfect either, I doubt any system is.

The difference is that PoS has proven itself to be bad governance while PoW has not.

I have always followed you and I do read many of your articles, you are doing very well, keep it up. Thank you.

For me, I try to continue keeping a long attention span and reading books helps with that. What I appreciate most on Hive with this aspect of knowledge is the diversity, I think there are diverse sources of knowledge here and from a broad experience.
