Make no mistake: the Blockchain has been around since 2016, so the core of the chain is just over 9 years old, but the Hive itself is 5 years old.
The reason for this is that Hive forked from the old chain, and we now consider ourselves to be a 5-year-old chain, as we feel completely independent of the old chain and its history.
Everyone knows the history behind the old chain and how Justin Sun wanted to merge us with his baby: Tron.
Perhaps he wanted to build a megachain for himself; after all, we had the community and the technology, while Sun had the money, volume, and popularity.
It could have been a match made in heaven in terms of short-term price increases, but in the long run, it would have been disastrous. Steemit demonstrates that Justin Sun is not a Blockchain or "decentralization guy," but rather someone who has money and wants to show it off.
He wanted to seize governance of the Blockchain and completely control the entire Blockchain, which he did, going to war with many of the witnesses and seizing theycallmedan's stake, among other things.
A few people wanted the Tron Merge
Probably because they feel it'll help price or bring in more people, at least anything that can pump their bag
It was an epic battle that made headlines, and that is how we forked. On March 20, 2020, I was just returning home for the holidays when I learned that Hive had been born.
It was stressful to think we would be on the same chain as Justin Sun, but we forked with the help of some of the chain's biggest supporters. I had the stake I was airdropped on Hive, so I powered down my Steemit stake and exchanged it for Hive, and that was it; I never looked back.
So this is just a brief explanation of why the chain may be nine years old but the Hive is only five.
If you compare the old chain to what we have on Hive, you will notice a clear difference. The technology is different; Steemit appears to be a ghost chain, with over 90% of the rewards going to a few accounts.
It feels like a massive ring of circle jerking. When it comes to development, there is not much going on aside from Korean circle jerking and such.
Happy 5th
It is been a good five years thus far. 2021 was a huge year for Hive, and I still believe we are young, and in 5 to 10 years, a lot will have changed on Hive, just as it is now compared to five years ago.
Decentralization slows things down as much as it improves them, and it can be frustrating to not look like the shiny things we see out there.
Our history is not one of convenience or ease; we were literally formed from chaos, which means a lot. Unfortunately, not everyone will wait for Hive to bloom.
Every bear market that hits Hive will produce more unbelievers, not just this one, but the next and the one after that, and this is not just because the technology is redundant, slow, or bad, but also because we will not be doing Bitcoin-style pumps.
We know that price is a significant uplift, which is why some projects fail during the bear market; they have more unbelievers than believers.
Fortunately for us, we have more believers who will stick around throughout the cycle. Happy fifth birthday to Hive, and many more to come.

Definitely happy fifth and many more to come! Hopefully, also a return to higher Hive prices as well. We'll see how people react throughout this bear, many may stop posting until it goes back up, but nothing new!

It's the same habits all through, no difference. I've seen three bear cycles with this one being the third. The reaction towards dipping prices are the same.
It's great to see what the chain has become after being forked 5 years ago.
Happy 5th birthday to Hive, and I hope to see more to come. I wasn't here during the days on STEEM, but I know a lot of people talked about the experiences there. I am happy to be here on Hive, and that won't change.
Yeah. The experiences on Steemit was epic and honestly I count myself lucky to have experienced it. I'll never trade it for anything but then, it's great to be on Hive
It was recently that I read about the history of hive. Happy 5th birthday to Hive
Yeah, happy 5th birthday to Hive. The history is something of a tale
Happy hive five 🎉

The whole fork situation was some serious drama back history for this platform, but looking at Steemit now, dodging that bullet was the best thing ever. Here’s to many more years on Hive
I agree, decentralized projects don’t move as fast as centralized ones, but the independence and resilience are worth it. Hive’s journey proves that
