My Modern Format Experiment: From Bronze to Diamond in One Season! + Wild (Bot) Format vs Modern (Human) Format Considerations

On Splinterlands the season 153 is in progress in which I enjoy playing only in the Modern Format because there are no bots but only human players like me!

In the previous season, season 152, I started a new test in the Modern Format right after finishing a 4-season long test in the Wild Format.

In seasons 148, 149, 150 and 151Wild FormatXBOT. I played in the Modern Format with @libertycrypto27 but I also played in the using my curation account @libertygame27 and using

In my test in the Wild Format I used:

my card collection of the Beta and Untamed sets (Market Price value: $533 - 85120 CP)
Chaos Legion, Riftwacher and Rebellion cards that I do not use in Modern Format with my main account (Market Price value: 87$ - 16000 CP)
20-30 rented cards for which I spent 545 DEC in season 151.
a delegation of 50K SPS from my main account.

(Not)Playing in the Wild Format using XBOT was unfun and also unprofitable because as you can see in the next four images I closed all seasons at a loss.

In my test in Modern Format in season 152 I used my alt account, @libertygame27, with whom I manually played 190 battles.

In the first part of the season I used:

the Chaos Legion, Riftwacher and Rebellion cards delegated from my main account (Market Price value: $87 - 16000 CP)
the Reward Rebellion and Reward Chaos Legion cards (36440 CP)
a delegation of 50K SPS staked from my main account.

In the last 7 days of the season I rented 21 top level cards for which I spent a total of 452.88 DEC.

Playing in the Modern Format manually with two accounts instead of one was slightly more challenging for me but the game results were positive because:

with libertycrypto27 I finished season 152 in league Diamond II (highest league achieved: Diamond I)
with libertygame27 I finished season 152 in league Diamond III (highest league achieved: Diamond II)

The seasonal gains in SPS were different between my two accounts mainly because with libertygame27 I started the season in Bronze league where the initial gain in SPS was about 0.01 SPS per win.

My test was very useful in comparing the profitability of the two Formats.

In the Wild Format in season 151 I used XBOT with a collection of cards with a Collection Power > 230000 CP and ended the season in loss: -0.61$
In the Modern Format in season 152 I played manually with a card collection with a Collection Power = 52440 CP and ended the season with a profit: +1.29$

In the current season I will continue my testing also because the season starting point between my two accounts will be less disadvantageous for my second account than in the previous season and I am curious to see how many SPS I will be able to gain by playing with two accounts instead of one.

Final Considerations

Wild (Bot) Format VS Modern (Human) Format

My test was very useful for me because it gave me concrete elements to make a personal evaluation of the current structure of the Ranked Play.

Playing in the Wild Format was little fun for me in the first testing season and was completely boring for me in the last testing season. If I add the fact that I also spent 8000 DEC and closed the seasons at a loss for no fun...

Playing in the Modern Format with my curation account starting from the Bronze league was a lot of fun and it was also profitevible.

The Modern Format is in my opinion the only format that has the potential to attract new players.

But there is one problem...

Try putting yourself in the shoes of a hypothetical new human player who, for example, started playing two months ago on Splinterlands, purchased the Spellbook and bought Chaos Legion cards to play in the Modern Format and likes to play competitively with human players like himself.

This human player started playing and having fun because Splinterlands has structured and fun gameplay.

What do you think he will do when he finds out that the Chaos Legion cards he purchased will no longer be able to use them to play against human players like him starting in May 2025 when the new set is released?

Do you think this hypothetical new player will be happy to find out that in Ranked Play he will only be able to use his Chaos Legion cards in the Wild Format to play against bots, will also have to pay 2000 DEC per season to play against bots, and will close at a loss every season if he does not invest at least $1000 in cards and SPS?

He will be disappointed and discontented!

Only I see a serious problem with this situation?
Do we want to attract new human players to Splinterlands?
Do we want to attract new human players who will be discontented every time their cards leave the Modern Format?
Or do we want to protect the gameplay and enjoyment of human players over time?

It is just my opinion and I will continue to share it often in my posts but in I think the structure of ranked play should not be the current one but it should be this:

Modern Format: human players only + eventual liquidity bots owned by Splinterlands.
Wild Format: human players only + eventual liquidity bots owned by Splinterlands
Bot Format: private bots and human players + Wild Pass

The current structure of ranked play is a disincentive to buy cards that can be used in the Wild Format and a disincentive to buy cards that are close to coming out of the Modern Format...

Dear Reader, I am seriously considering creating an SPS proposal to try to change the current structure of Ranked Play and would love to know your opinion.

I will end this post of mine by showing my last battle played in the Modern Format which is the only format where, in my opinion, the heart (gameplay) of Splinterlands beats and where human players like me can have fun!

(Non)Giocare nel Wild Format utilizzando XBOT è stato poco divertente e anche non profittevole perchè come puoi vedere nelle quattro prossime immagini ho chiuso tutte le stagioni in perdita.

Nel mio test nel Modern Format ho utilizzato sempre il mio alt account, @libertygame27, con cui ho giocato manualmente.

Nella prima parte della stagione ho utilizzato:

le carte Chaos Legion, Riftwacher e Rebellion delegate dal mio account principale (Market Price value: 87$ - 16000 CP)
le carte Reward Rebellion e Reward Chaos Legion (36440 CP)
una delega di 50K SPS staked dal mio account principale

Negli ultimi 7 giorni della stagione ho noleggiato 21 carte di massimo livello per le quali ho speso in totale 452.88 DEC.

Giocare nel Modern Format manualmente con due account invece di uno è stato leggermente più impegnativo per me ma i risultati di gioco sono stati positivi perchè:

con libertycrypto27 ho terminato la stagione 152 in lega Diamond II (massima lega raggiunta: Diamond I)
con libertygame27 ho terminato la stagione 152 in lega Diamond III (massima lega raggiunta: Diamond II)

I guadagni stagionali in SPS sono stati diversi tra i miei due account soprattutto perchè con libertygame27 ho iniziato la stagione in lega Bronze dove il guadagno iniziale in SPS era di circa 0.01 SPS per vittoria.

Il mio test è stato molto utile per confrontare la profittabilità dei due Formati.

Nel Wild Format nella stagione 151 ho utilizzato XBOT con una collezione di carte con un Collection Power > 230000 CP e ho concluso la stagione in perdita: -0.61$
Nel Modern Format nella stagione 152 ho giocato manualmente con una collezione di carte con un Collection Power = 52440 CP e ho concluso la stagione con un profitto: +1.29$

Nella stagione in corso continuerò il mio test anche perchè il punto di partenza stagionale tra i miei due account sarà meno svantaggioso per il mio secondo account rispetto alla stagione precendente e sono curioso di vedere quanti SPS riuscirò a guadagnare giocando con due accounts invece di uno.

Considerazioni Finali

Wild (Bot) Format VS Modern (Human) Format

Il mio test è stato molto utile per me perchè mi ha dato elementi concreti per fare una valutazione personale sull'attuale struttura del Wild Format.

Giocare nel Wild Format è stato poco divertente per me nella prima stagione di test ed è stato completamente noioso per me nell'ultima stagione di test. Se aggiungo il fatto che ho anche speso 8000 DEC e chiuso le stagioni in perdita per non divertirmi...

Giocare nel Modern Format con il mio curation account partendo dalla lega Bronze è stato molto divertente ed è stato anche profitevvole.

Il Modern Format è secondo me l'unico formato che ha il potenziale per attrarre nuovi giocatori.

C'è però un problema...

Prova a metterti nei panni di un nuovo ipotetico giocatore umano che per esempio ha iniziato a giocare due mesi fa su Splinterlands, ha acquistato lo Spellbook e ha acquistato le carte Chaos Legion per giocare nel Modern Format e ama giocare in modo competitivo con giocatori umani come lui.

Questo giocatore umano ha iniziato a giocare e divertirsi perchè Splinterlands ha un gameplay strutturato e divertente.

Secondo te cosa farà quando scoprirà che le carte Chaos Legion che ha acquistato non potrà più utilizzarle per giocare contro giocatori umani come lui a partire da maggio 2025 quando sarà rilasciato il nuovo set?

Secondo te questo ipotetico nuovo giocatore sarà contento di scoprire che nel Ranked Play potrà utilizzare le sue carte Chaos Legion solo nel Wild Format per giocare contro i bots, dovrà anche pagare 2000 DEC a stagione per giocare contro i bots e chiuderà in perdita ogni stagione se non investirà almeno 1000$ in carte e SPS?

Sarà deluso e scontento!

Solo io vedo un serio problema in questa situazione?
Vogliamo attirare nuovi giocatori umani su Splinterlands?
Vogliamo attirare nuovi giocatori umani che saranno scontenti ogni volta che le loro carte usciranno dal Modern Format?
Oppure vogliamo proteggere il gameplay e il divertimento dei giocatori umani nel tempo?

E' solo la mia opinione e continuerò a condividerla spesso nei miei post ma secondo me la struttura del ranked play non dovrebbe essere quella attuale ma dovrebbe essere questa:

Modern Format: solo giocatori umani + eventuali liquidity bots di proprietà di Splinterlands
Wild Format: solo giocatori umani + eventuali liquidity bots di proprietà di Splinterlands
Bot Format: bots privati e giocatori umani + Wild Pass

L'attuale struttura del ranked play è un disincentivo ad acquistare le carte utilizzabili nel Wild Format e un disincentivo ad acquistare le carte prossime ad uscire dal Modern Format...

Caro lettore, sto seriamente pensando di creare una SPS proposal per provare a cambiare l'attuale struttura del Ranked Play e mi piacerebbe conoscere la tua opinione.

Concludo questo mio post mostrando la mia ultima battaglia giocata nel Modern Format che è l'unico formato in cui, secondo me, batte il cuore (il gameplay) di Splinterlands e in cui i giocatori umani come me possono divertirsi!

This is a very huge concern is you ask me. I'm currently using CL cards, 70% of my cards are CL and I think it'll be really harsh on a new user to learn that their investment can no longer allow them play in modern. I understand splinterlands needs the money to follow, but relegating the cards to WILD FORMAT is really brutal

I am concerned about CL being unusable in modern as it's the main reason why I can still win fights. It makes me wonder where things will go as I will have to fork over funds to get the new decks. Maybe I'll just go for a weaker deck and get less rewards. I don't know yet because I don't think Wild is worth it given the pass price.

When the Chaos Legion set comes out of Modern I will try again using a bot and see if it will be worth using a bot or not but from my previous test I think without renting cards I could make a profit.
If the current structure of Wild Format will not change I will either not buy any more cards or I will buy few and I think I will focus on renting cards to play in Modern Format, of course always if it will be convenient for me ;)

I think the modern format is more considerable than the wild, since you made a loss in the wild battles should be about winning and bringing home the medal if the wild format makes one loss a little but modern gains more i think I'll stick with modern
