New Splinterlands Survival Mode: How To Exclude Cards + My First Survival Battles
With the start of season 154 in Modern Format and Wild Format, the first season of the new game mode released by Splinterlands also began: the Survival Mode
In my previous post, I explained what Survival Mode is and showed the main mechanisms governing this new game mode, emphasizing the differences with Wild and Modern formats.
To summarize and simplify the new Survival Mode is a Wild Format without the energy bar because the cards are the energy to play more battles.
In fact in Survival mode battles cards used in a lost battle enter a cooldown mode = they cannot be used in all ranked game modes (Modern Format, Wild Format, Tournaments, Brawls) until the cooldown period is over.
How to exclude cards in order not to use them in Survival Mode.
Survival Mode introduces a new level of card management and also introduces the ability to enable or disable the use of a card in Survival Mode.
Those who choose to play only in Survival Mode do not need to manage their card collection.
Those who play in multiple game modes must necessarily manage their card collection by choosing which cards to use in Survival Mode and which cards to exclude from this new game mode.
I play in Modern Format, Brawls with my guild and occasionally play some tournaments.
If I accidentally used a card in Survival Mode that I use a lot in Modern Format such as level 10 VRUZ and VRUZ is eliminated in battle I would not be able to use VRUZ for 120 hours = 5 days in Modern Format and this could produce a worsening of my game results in Modern Format.
Fortunately, Splinterlands has introduced useful new features to allow players to choose which cards to exclude from accidental use in Survival Mode.
To exclude a card from Survival Mode you can:
- go to the ITEMS->CARDS section.
- click on the card you want to exclude from Survival Mode.
- select the card by clicking on the selection square.
- click on the fourth symbol in the status section of the card.
- or click on DISABLE SURVIVAL CARD.
In case you have multiple copies of the same card, you can choose which ones to exclude from Survival Mode and which ones not by acting on the selection boxes and clicking on Disable Survival Cards.
If you have many cards in your NFT collection, you should repeat the steps I have shown for each individual card you want to exclude from Survival Mode.
To speed up the selection of cards to exclude from Survival Mode you can create a CUSTOM SET = a set of cards that you can then exclude from use in the new game mode.
To create a CUSTOM SET:
- you need to go to the ITEMS section.
- then you need to click on CARD SETS.
- then you have to click on CREATE under the CUSTOM heading.
Using filters you can select subsets of your cards and for each card you can quickly select how many and which cards to select.
An important piece of information for card selection, in my opinion, is the elapsed time since the last use in play (Last Played).
You can also alternatively use the AUTOFIL feature, which you can configure by clicking on the gear symbol.
When you have chosen all the cards you want to exclude from Survival Mode you can complete the creation of your Custom set by clicking CREATE.
Then you need to choose the name of your Custom Set and click on CONFIRM
At this point if you go to the ITEMS->CARDS section:
in the Filters section you can select the Card set you created.
in the filters at the top you have to select SURVIVAL MODE ENABLED
then you need to click on the symbol indicated by the arrow in the next image
then you need to click on CONFIRM
This way you can exclude from Survival Mode all the cards that compose your card set!
My first battles in Survival Mode
After excluding the cards I use most frequently in Modern Format from use in Survival Mode, the number of my cards initially usable in Survival Mode decreased: 1101 cards -> 835 cards.
In my first battle in Survival Mode I was not very lucky because I found a very very strong opponent @jarvie
In the second battle I was much luckier with the opponent assignment and won my first battle in Survival Mode.
In the third battle I lost.
After three battles I increased my rating score by +20 and did not win SPS tokens because as explained in the Splinterlands post it will take some time for the SPS token pool to be filled completely.
In the Battle Log you can see that cards used in lost battles are entering the Cooldown phase.
In the ITEMS->CARDS section by selecting the Survival Mode Depleted filter you can see the cards in Cooldown.
In the status section of the individual card you can see the duration of the cooldown period.

Con l'inizio della stagione 154 nel Modern Format e nel Wild Format è iniziata anche la prima stagione della nuova modalità di gioco rilasciata da Splinterlands: il Survival Mode
Nel mio precedente post ho spiegato cos'è il Survival Mode e ho mostrato i meccanismi principali che governano questa nuova modalità di gioco sottolineando le differenze con i formati Wild e Modern.
In sintesi e semplificando il nuovo Survival Mode è un Wild Format senza la barra dell'energia perchè le carte sono l'energia per giocare più battaglie.
Infatti nelle Survival mode battles le carte utilizzate in una battaglia persa entrano in una modalità cooldown = non possono essere utilizzate in tutte le modalità di gioco ranked (Modern Format, Wild Format, Tournaments, Brawls) fino a quando non è terminato il periodo di cooldown.
Come escludere le carte per non utilizzarle nel Survival Mode
Il Survival Mode introduce un nuovo livello di gestione delle carte e introduce anche la possibilità di abilitare o disabilitare l'utilizzo di una carta nel Survival Mode.
Chi sceglie di giocare solo nel Survival Mode non ha necessità di gestire la propria collezione di carte.
Chi gioca in più modalità di gioco deve necessariamente gestire la propria collezione di carte scegliendo quali carte utilizzare nel Survival Mode e quali carte escludere da questa nuova modalità di gioco.
Io gioco nel Modern Format, nelle Brawls con la mia gilda e occasionalmente gioco qualche torneo.
Se per sbaglio utilizzassi nel Survival Mode una carta che utilizzo molto nel Modern Format come ad esempio VRUZ di livello 10 e VRUZ venisse eliminato in battaglia non potrei utilizzare VRUZ per 120 ore = 5 giorni nel Modern Format e questo potrebbe produrre un peggioramento dei miei risultati di gioco nel Modern Format.
Fortunatamente Splinterlands ha introdotto delle utili e nuove funzionalità per permettere ai giocatori di scegliere quali carte escludere dall'utilizzo accidentale nel Survival Mode.
Per escludere una carta dal Survival Mode puoi:
- andare nella sezione ITEMS->CARDS
- cliccare sulla carta che vuoi escludere dal Survival Mode
- selezionare la carta cliccando sul quadratino di selezione
- cliccare sul quarto simbolo nella sezione status della carta
- oppure cliccare su DISABLE SURVIVAL CARD
Nel caso hai più copie di una stessa carta puoi scegliere quali escludere dal Survival Mode e quali no agendo sui quadratini di selezione e cliccando su Disable Survival Cards.
Se hai molte carte nella tua collezione di NFT dovresti ripetere le operazioni che ti ho mostrato per ogni singola carta che vuoi escludere dal Survival Mode.
Per velocizzare la selezione delle carte da escludere dal Survival Mode puoi creare un CUSTOM SET = un insieme di carte che poi puoi escludere dall'utilizzo nella nuova modalità di gioco.
Per creare un CUSTOM SET:
- devi andare nella sezione ITEMS
- poi devi cliccare su CARD SETS
- poi devi cliccare su CREATE sotto alla scritta CUSTOM
Utilizzando i filtri puoi selezionare sotto-insiemi delle tue carte e per ogni carta puoi selezionare velocemente quante e quali carte selezionare.
Un informazione importante per la selezione delle carte è secondo me il tempo trascorso dall'ultimo utilizzo in gioco (Last Played).
Puoi utilizzare in alternativa anche la funzionalità AUTOFIL che puoi configurare cliccando sul simbolo dell'ingranaggio.
Quando hai scelto tutte le carte che vuoi escludere dal Survival Mode puoi completare la creazione del tuo Custom cliccando su CREATE.
Poi devi scegliere il nome del tuo Custom Set e cliccare su CONFIRM
Adesso se vai nella sezione ITEMS->CARDS:
- nella sezione dei Filtri puoi selezionare il Card set che hai creato
- nei filtri in alto devi selezionare SURVIVAL MODE ENABLED
- poi devi cliccare sul simbolo indicato dalla freccia nella prossima immagine
- poi devi cliccare su CONFIRM
In questo modo puoi escludere dal Survival Mode tutte le carte che compongono il tuo card set!
Le mie prime battaglie nel Survival Mode
Dopo aver escluso dall'utilizzo nel Survival Mode le carte che utilizzo con più frequenza nel Modern Format è diminuito il numero delle carte inizialmente utilizzabili nel Survival Mode: 1101 carte -> 835 carte.
Nella mia prima battaglia nel Survival Mode non sono stato molto fortunato perchè ho trovato un avversario molto molto forte @jarvie
Nella seconda battaglia sono stato molto più fortunato con l'assegnazione dell'avversario e ho vinto la mia prima battaglia nel Survival Mode.
Nella terza battaglia ho perso.
Dopo tre battaglie ho aumentato il mio punteggio di rating di +20 e non ho vinto token SPS perchè come spiegato nel post di Splinterlands ci vorrà un pò di tempo affinchè la pool di token SPS possa essere riempita completamente.
Nel Battle Log è possibile vedere che le carte utilizzate nelle battaglie perse sono entrare in fase di Cooldown.
Nella sezione ITEMS->CARDS selezionando il filtro Survival Mode Depleted è possibile vedere le carte in Cooldown.
Nella sezione status della singola carta è possibile vedere la durata del periodo di cooldown.

It's an interesting mode, but I think I'll just avoid it. If the SPS pool is being filled in survivival mode, does it mean that the pools for modern/wild get smaller?
No the pool is a new pool and is completely separate from the pools of the modern and wild formats.
It's just a technical reason that will only make the pool go to full capacity starting next season
Survival mode is the hot topic among splinterlands players and many players are writing about it. I like the community enthusiasm and it's what makes splinterlands stand out in web3 gaming. As always you have explained it well step by step. Happy weekend
Tra le cose che vanno riconosciute a Splinterlands c'è sicuramente il mettere a disposizione un milione di filtri ed opzioni per gestire le proprie carte. Il poter creare un set e poi disabilitarne l'utilizzo nella Survival mode è davvero comodo e per nulla scontata come opzione.

Fortuna che ci hai avvisato! Ancora non ho provato il Survival Mode, ma rischiavo di anestetizzare un bel po’ di carte. Interessante anche la possibilitá di escludere le carte dal survival mode.
