Splinterlands Bans 26 Accounts for Violating Fair Play Policy
+ Overwiew of Splinterlands Play Section + Considerations abouts Ranked Formats and Fair Play Policy
On Splinterlands it is possible to choose between different play modes.
In fact, in the Play section there are 6 possible choices:
- Ranked Play
- Guild Brawls
- Tournaments
- Conflicts
- Land
- Soulkeep
Conflicts and Land are more passive than active game modes because monster cards and summoner cards are not used in the Player vs. Player game mode but are used as tools to produce points from card airdrops (Conflicts) and as assets to be staked to produce resources (Land).
Soulkeep is a different game compared to Splinterlands because it is a Tower Defense game of the Player vs. Environment type but is accessible and playable from the Splinterlands site.
Guild Brawls are fun battles between Guilds in which players group and play in teams instead of individually and work together to make their guild grow and prosper.
In tournament mode players compete against each other in two-player battles to finish in the prize positions.
The most played game mode on Splinterlands is Ranked Play which is divided into two formats:
- Wild Format
- Modern Format
In the Modern Format, only cards of the last two sets released in order of time can be used, which, at the time of writing this post, are the Rebellion set and the Chaos Legion set.
In the Wild Format, all cards of all card sets can be used but it is necessary to purchase the Wild Pass which costs 2000 DEC and is a seasonal recurring cost (payable every 15 days).
Splinterlands PvP game modes have an additional differentiation related to Splinterlands TOS and specifically in reference to point 7 of the Splinterlands Terms & Conditions.
In fact under the Splinterlands Fair Play Policy in the Modern Format, Guild Brawls and Tournaments:
- it is prohibited to use bots
- it is prohibited to use external aids (battle helpers, analysis tools, ...)
- it is prohibited to engage in “win-trading ” = when two or more accounts lose intentionally to favor another account.
In the Wild Format there is no Fair Play Policy because it is allowed to use bots and battle helpers.
Yesterday in the official-announcements channel of the Splinterlands Discord server it was announced that:
- 21 accounts were banned in Modern Format for win-trading practices.
- 5 accounts were banned in the Tournaments game mode for win-trading practices
I don't know if this is the first time accounts have been banned since the introduction of the Fair Play Policy but I'm very glad that action has been taken towards players who don't observe the rules because in a game with beautiful and fun gameplay like Splinterlands protecting and preserving the enjoyment of human players who play by respecting the rules is crucial!
This ban is in my opinion a good thing because it may discourage future similar actions.
While I am glad that there was this ban on the other hand I continue to see the current Wild Format and Modern Format division as a big problem because in my opinion all cards from all editions should be able to be played under a Fair play policy but currently that is not the case.
I can use my Chaos Legion and Rebellion cards in Modern Format against human players like me knowing that I am protected against smart players because of the Fair Play Policy but I cannot use my cards of previous editions under the protection of the Fair Play Policy and I also have to pay 2000 DEC to be unprotected by a Fair Play Policy.
Is this a problem from the perspective of onboarding new players?
In my opinion it is a big problem!
Obviously my opinions are personal and therefore not shareable but I will continue to share in my posts my idea of how the structure of ranked play should be:
- Modern Format: human players only + eventual liquidity bots owned by Splinterlands + Fair Play Policy
- Wild Format: human players only + eventual liquidity bots owned by Splinterlands + Fair Play Policy
- Bot Format: private bots and human players + Wild Pass
I conclude this post of mine by showing my last battle played in the Modern Format which is the only format where, in my opinion, the heart (gameplay) of Splinterlands beats and human players like me enjoy choosing the best strategy to win a battle!
I hope I have given you useful information and some interesting thoughts and thank you for taking the time to read this post :)

- è proibito utilizzare aiuti esterni (battle helpers, analysis tools, ...)
Secondo me è un grosso problema!
- Bot Format: bots privati e giocatori umani + Wild Pass

.Glad to see rules enforced and cheaters punished fairly.
Without rules, honest people are always at a disadvantage to those who simply do not care for the common good.
I use xBot in wild and I have done since day one. My reason ? , I find it impossible to play and enjoy play against bots, so with bots in Wild the only way I can use my deck is via a bot.
I do play modern manually and I consider that the "real" game for me, but I simply do not have the time to play more than a few battles a day usually ( about 5 sometimes 10).
I measure my ability on my Modern rank, and it does make me sad that I can't play wild, as I've been picking up some nice older cards recently and I'd love to try some strategies out, but it's pointless against bots
Maybe we will see your three league system in place sometime, it does seem like a good solution
Hi and thanks for your comment
I completely agree with everything you wrote
I hope so because that would be a good step forward.

So are you saying that the accounts that were banned were playing in modern but they still continued using battle helpers?
Splinterlands' stated reason for banning 21 accounts is not the use of battle helpers but is win trading = when two or more accounts intentionally lose to favor another account.

I am glad to see that they are taking some action, but it seems like it was all about win-trading and not about bots.
Yes, Splinterlands' stated reason for banning 21 accounts is not the use of bots/battle helpers but is win trading = when two or more accounts intentionally lose to favor another account.
In my opinion Bots remain a problem until human players have a format in which to use wild cards and in which there is the same fair play policy as there is in modern = no bots and no battle helpers

Thanks for sharing the useful information.
I feel all the recent implements like Wild Pass, and soulbound reward cards,... do not welcome new players as well as nerf the old players by removing the usage of old sets.
thanks to you for reading and appreciating my post
Yes even in my opinion Wild Pass is not an optimal solution because if it had a positive effect on bot-farms it also had a negative effect on human players...

Doesn't this mean that the game itself is no longer completely decentralized? I mean, a "master" control between accounts like in the case of this ban. Or can players still transfer their Assets or sell them?
The game is decentralized in terms of assets, the ban should only affect accounts and not assets

Interesting, there was time if such a notion was to be brought up it would be quickly shot down (banning of accounts). I always knew we were headed there regardless, same for bot bands. Great post as always buddy!
