Splinterlands Recent News: Contextual Tooltips for New Players, Affiliate Program Reworked, New Voucher Shop Card (Dollar Cost Calculation) + My Partial Seasonal Results
Yesterday, December 10, 2024 Splinterlands implemented new changes and new features which are listed in the Splinterlands Release Notes section.
The most useful and interesting change in my opinion is the addition of Contextual Tooltips in the game stages that will help new players understand the game dynamics more quickly.
In fact, in the SETTINGS->NOTIFICATIONS section you can enable/disable/reset the NEW PLAYER TIPS.
In contextual tooltips you can also click on the highlighted parts that direct you to pages that explain the highlighted term in detail.
One of the aspects that I consider very important in games is the level of user friendliness and with these tooltips Splinterlands has definitely improved this aspect! Well Done!
The main pages of the two formats in the Ranked Play section have been changed with new backgrounds and I like both backgrounds although I particularly like the background of the Modern Format which is also my favorite game format because in the Modern Format no bots and battle helpers are allowed but only human players.
The other change regards the Affiliate Program which undergoes a reset and restart becoming the new Ambassador Program.
Within the SHOP->EXCLUSIVE section is a new card that can only be purchased using VOUCHERS.
Instead of Mana Warden, which is now only purchasable in the cards market, there is Ulfga the Blighted.
Ulfga the Blighted is a legendary Promo card of the Dragon element with no attack that cannot acquire attack points when placed adjacent to a card with the Weapon Training ability because it has the Untrainable (dis)ability.
It is the only card on Splinterlands to have the Poison Burst ability that it acquires starting at second level.
The cost of 1 BCX is 1500 VOUCHER.
Purchasing 25 cards in a single transaction allows you to receive a guaranteed Gold Foil card.
On September 3, 2024, when Mana Warden was purchasable I calculated the purchase cost in dollars and today I did the same calculation for Ulfga the Blighted.
Today Dec. 11 1 VOUCHER has a market value (Lowest Ask) = 0.04499998 SWAP.HIVE = 0.01489499$
Based on the current value of the VOUCHER token on Hive Engine:
- Ulfga the Blighted of level 1 costs $22.34
- Ulfga the Blighted of level 4 (max level) costs 245.76$
In my opinion Ulfga the Blighted is an interesting card but its cost is too high in relation to the cost of other cards that I consider more versatile and more useful in battle.
Also, those who have a lot of vouchers will probably buy multiple copies of this card and choosing to buy Ulfga the Blighted later on the market from other players might be the more convenient choice (this is my personal assessment and it is not certain that this will happen).
Ulfga the Blighted would be useful for me in battle but:
- I don't have 1500 VOUCHERS in my in-game wallet.
- it would not increase my win rate by much
For these two reasons, I will continue to accumulate VOUCHER while waiting for a card that I will like more.
I will end this post by showing my partial game results in the current season which will end in 3 days and 15 minutes.
In the Modern Format I have a rating = 2900 and am in the Diamond III league.
I have also accumulated more than 100K GLINT but my goal is to accumulate at least 150K GLINT before the end of the season.
I will also try to get at least in the Diamond I league.
In Modern Format I play manually and have a lot of fun choosing cards to use in battle against other human players like me.

In the Wild Format there are a lot of bots and even though I have Beta and Untamed cards that can be used in this format I have no incentive to play manually because I only have fun if I know I am playing against human players like me.
For this reason at the beginning of the season I used a bot for the first time.
I spent 33 SWAP.HIVE to buy XBOTLITE and spent 2000 DEC to buy the Wild Pass and delegated my Beta and Untamed cards to @libertygame27 (my curation account for SPT tokens).
In the Wild Format using XBOT I started in the Diamond II league and dropped down to the GOLD III league.
After 11 sessions and 290 battles I earned:
- 77.38 SPS
- 27585 GLINTS
I will wait until the end of the season to make evaluations and considerations but so far the results of my first test in using a bot have not been very positive.

Ieri 10 dicembre 2024 Splinterlands ha implementato nuove modifiche e nuove funzionalità che sono elencate nella sezione Splinterlands Release Notes.
La modifica più utile e interessante è secondo me l'aggiunta dei Contextual Tooltips nelle fasi di gioco che aiuteranno i nuovi giocatori a comprendere più velocemente le dinamiche di gioco.
Infatti nella sezione SETTINGS->NOTIFICATIONS è possibile abilitare/disabilitare/resettare i NEW PLAYER TIPS.
Nei contextual tooltips è possibile anche cliccare sulle parti evidenziate che indirizzano alle pagine che spiegano in dettaglio il termine evidenziato.
Uno degli aspetti che considero molto importante nei giochi è il livello di user friendliness e con questi tooltips Splinterlands ha decisamente migliorato questo aspetto! Ben Fatto!
Le pagine principali dei due formati nella sezione Ranked Play sono state cambiate con nuovi sfondi e mi piacciono entrambi gli sfondi anche se mi piace in particolare lo sfondo del Modern Format che è anche il mio formato di gioco preferito perchè nel Modern Format non sono consentiti bots e battle helpers ma solo giocatori umani.
L'altra novità riguarda l'Affiliate Program che subisce un reset e una ripartenza diventando il nuovo Ambassador Program.

Secondo me Ulfga the Blighted è una carta interessante ma il suo costo è troppo alto in rapporto al costo di altre carte che considero più versatili e più utili in battaglia.
Inoltre chi ha tanti voucher probabilmente acquisterà più copie di questa carta e scegliere di acquistare Ulfga the Blighted in un secondo momento sul mercato da altri giocatori potrebbe essere la scelta più conveniente (è la mia personale valutazione e non è detto che questo succederà).
Ulfga the Blighted sarebbe per me utile in battaglia ma:
- non ho 1500 VOUCHER nel mio in-game wallet
- non aumenterebbe di molto il mio win rate
Per queste due motivazioni continuerò ad accumulare VOUCHER aspettando una carta che mi piacerà di più.
Concludo questo post mostrando i miei risultati di gioco parziali nella stagione in corso che terminerà tra 3 giorni e 15 minuti.
Nel Modern Format ho un punteggio di rating = 2900 e sono nella lega Diamond III.

How the heck did a proposal pass that removed our already attained sign ups. That is a big fumble, we can't expect any serious affiliates to put work in to get sign ups with the reality of one day they can be removed. Not a good look at all.
Yes I agree on that point and I would not have made that choice also because I don't see much use in resetting a membership system, modifying it yes but resetting it generates dissatisfaction
I am fine with the changes in regards to making things easier for new users, but I don't like the changes to the referral rewards. I don't see a lot of people liking it even if it helps them earn Glint when DEC/merits are more useful to people.

This would probably be beneficial to people who have been accumulating vouchers for a very long time. However, this is a lot of money if you ask me. I don't know how many people will be getting this card. It's a amazing card, but 1500 voucher for one BCX is a whole lot
Yes, I agree and I think the cost in VOUCHER is too high and in fact Mana Warden costs less now in the market than before in the shop
