Hello Readers,
If you have spent a while on Hive already, then you must have invested some bucks into a game on this chain initially just to play the game and have some web3 fun. Well, if you are that kind of dude who always loves to keep an eye on new play2earn games and has been keeping up with the gaming world, you have probably heard about Moonkarts by now. This game is developed by Arcade Colony, and it is a retro-style arcade racing game using kart-style cars with futuristic neon race tracks which is currently making waves in the hive blockchain gaming space.
Now there are quite a few popular games on Hive already - Splinterlands, Dcrops, Rising Star and some other play-to-earn (P2E) games, but on a technology level, most of them rely on simple card mechanics and 2D User Interface with no much interaction at the actual gameplay. Here is where Moonkarts makes its dashing entry, as this game practically delivers an exciting skill-based 3D racing gameplay experience while running on a decentralized Hive blockchain, which makes it both play-for-fun and also rewarding at a competitive level.
Card Rarities in Moonkarts
Anyway, in my last Moonkarts Tutorial, I talked about Power-Up cards and how they affect your stats and your performance in the gameplay. So moving forward, today we are going to learn about Card Rarities and Card Merging in this game. Just like Splinterlands, Moonkarts cards can also be combined and understanding how this works can boost your performance on the race track and increase your colony token rewards and Fuel production in the game. Every playable NFT asset in Moonkarts game is represented as a card and these cards come in four different rarities just like Splinterlands - Common, Rare, Epic and Legendary. Now, each of these types offers unique benefits and while in the game, you can view all your owned cards in the “My Cards” section in the game. There, you can simply identify their rarity by looking at their color where Green is common, Blue is rare, Purple is epic and Orange or Yellow or legendary. Let us now look into each of these rarities and their features below.
Common Cards
These are the most basic and entry-level cards and because they are the cheapest on the market, they become easiest to obtain. While these common type cards do not offer huge advantages, they however provide basic stats to start practicing on low levels for new players. So, if you are just starting or planning to start your journey in Moonkarts, Common Cards will help you with the lowest overall cost to get started and become familiar with the game mechanics, but in my own experience, don't expect a smooth racing from them at all.
Rare Cards
Rare cards are harder to find, as most of the Centauri packs only seem to produce only 1 Rare card per pack so far. However, rate cards are a little bit rare and costly than common, but they provide a better amount of both stats and possible special abilities than Common Cards. You might get these cards by completing specific Moonkarts challenges as stated in the white paper, racing in advanced tracks or purchasing higher-tier card packs. As I have also experienced myself, Rare type cards give you a noticeable edge over common cards and kill your competition against basic racers.
Epic Cards
Now if you are here to win, then we have to take owe stake onto some serious power! And if you can manage, Epic Cards in Moonkarts offer exceptional abilities and can completely change how you play in this game. After using an epic card, you can clearly tell the difference and also, and getting them is not an easy task as well. In the game in the future, you will need to complete difficult tasks, conquer advanced levels, and participate in special events, or you can also invest directly buying buying epic cards from the market or try opening packs.
Legendary Cards
Well, if you are here for real business, if you want to chase and rule that top leaderboard in the game and earn money, then the ultimate choice for you would be trying the Legendary cards. Legendary Cards are the rarest and most powerful in Moonkarts and they sure carry some flex. They provide game-changing attributes that can be felt immediately and will also help you to dominate races. However, they are extremely hard to get and costly as well and you will need to win major competitions, reach the highest ranks, or complete special in-game activities to get as rewards.
Gold Foil Cards
Love to open packs? Well, then if you are really lucky, some of your cards might turn into and appear in a Gold Foil version. These are super rare card foils and provide special bonuses during gameplay. The best part of owning gold foils is that the more Gold Foil cards you have, the higher your in-game rewards, especially if you stake them with Script tokens and generate Fuel. Every card in the pack that you open has a tiny chance of revealing a Gold Foil card just like Splinterlands, so keep your fingers crossed while Opening if you get any of them shining gold foil cards or packs, or you can also buy it from the market at a handsome cost.
Card Merging
Leveling Up Your Cards is very important in Moonkarts because no matter what is the rarity of your card if you keep it at base level 1, it will only have entry-level status. But that is where the Card Merging mechanism comes into play. All the cards can be leveled up by merging several same level cards to get upgraded to the next higher level of that card. Whenever you increase the level of your card, it increases their power. In Moonkarts, Merging can be very beneficial for all types of cards, including - Legendary to Common and gold foil versions of these cards as well. It works similarly to the Splinterlands system, where you combine multiple BCX copies of a particular card together to get the next level to enhance its stats and abilities.
Why should you merge cards?
Boost stats
- By Merging cards, you can improve their performance, making them stronger in races.Unlock new abilities
- Some Higher-level cards that you get via merging sometimes gain special abilities that give you an extra edge.Increase earnings
- By merging cards, you get better and upgraded cards and the better your cards, the more rewards you can earn from playing races.
So in order to stay competitive, I think merging and upgrading your cards is the only way forward, so that you can handle tougher challenges when playing against top players and maximize your winnings.
Last but not least, I have also recently bought 5 Centaurian packs from Hive-Engine market, which I will be opening, staking the good ones for fuel while testing races with the main parts and then sharing in my next post. Now looking today’s topic, I think that Card Rarities and Merging is essential to focus upon if you are here to build a decent account and play competitively in Moonkarts.
If you are just starting then I would suggest frying with common and rare cards and if you want to invest minimum and then buy the epic, legendary or gold Foil cards when you learn the game better. It is a sure fact that to be able to race at high levels, it is important to know how and which ones to collect, upgrade and make combo with other suitable cards and optimize your overall performance, which will give you the best chance of success on those blazing race tracks. So, my fellow ravers, what are you waiting for? Go and enjoy Moonkarts!

Same name cards, but different colors? What is the meaning of that?

hi, the same cards are available in different rarity - surge common and serge rare etc.
Cool, so the rare card the more stats it would have.
