Moonkarts Tutorial #9 | Let’s learn about Economy & Rewards

Hello Readers,

If you have been an active soul on the Hive blockchain for a while and have been engaging with the projects built on this chain, then chances are you have tried your hand at least a few play-to-earn games. Hive is becoming a global hub for web3 games and with unmatchable features like no transaction fee, true decentralization, state-of-the-art security with fast block processing speed. It has already been a home for some of the great play2earn games like Splinterlands, Dcrops and Rising Star, which are already making noticeable progress, but one new game is noticeably rising with hyper speed in that list, the Moonkarts.

Moonkarts is here to shake the entire world of crypto gaming with a fresh, fast-paced, complete 3D arcade racing experience. Developed by Arcade Colony, the Moonkarts brings high-energy infused kart-style racing with futuristic neon tracks and skill-based competition. Now in my last tutorial post, I have covered the Auto Vault and fuel generation part of this game. Now moving forward, let us dive into one of the most exciting parts of Moonkarts, its economy and reward system. So, if you are interested, let’s take a jump without any further ado.

How Earnings Work in Moonkarts

Moonkarts is a crypto-based game but in this game, you can't buy the wins only with money. Your earnings on the Moonkarts game will depend on four main factors, such as -

  • Skill – Skill is a very important factor in this game. The better you race on those Neon tracks, the more you win.

  • Time – The more time you play Moonkarts to build a better racer in you, the greater your rewards become in the meantime.

  • NFT Quality – Without a doubt, High-quality karts and gear NFT cards lead to better earnings than their lower counterparts. An Epic or Legendary card will always give better stats and perform more efficiently than the Common or Rare cards.

  • Governance Tokens – Players need to stake Colony tokens in order to earn rewards in multiplayer mode, those who stake more COLONY tokens get extra rewards.

Any player who wants to maximize his earnings, first of all, the player needs to be a skilled racer on Moonkarts. He should also put in time on playing the game, use high-quality NFT cards and stake the Colony governance tokens. Please keep in mind that missing any one of these 4 factors will lead you toward a disadvantage.

Reward System Breakdown

Every day, a finite number of COLONY tokens are allotted to Moonkarts from Arcade Colony and they then are distributed across different reward pools

  • 40% of the Colony tokens go to Orbitals Pool.

  • 25% of the Colony tokens go to the Ranking Pool.

  • 10% of the COLONY Tokens can be found on the Track.

  • 5% goes to the Referral Pool 20% gets allotted to the Seasonal Pool.

Seasonal Rewards Pool

Just like what we used to see in Splinterlands, here in Moonkarts also we do have a seasonal reward system, however the time range of Seasons in Moonkarts cycles quicker. On Moonkarts, every 10 days, a 20% portion of the COLONY rewards pool is allocated to the Seasonal Rewards Pool. Players who keep playing races and consistently perform well to rank high on leaderboards receive rewards based on their standing at the end of the cycle and other factors. This seasonal-based reward system really works well and ensures that rewards go to deserving players who maintain their skills and dedication over time, rather than just one-off winners and not to mention, getting continuous rewards from every season also makes it more interesting and engaging to keep playing the game.

How to Earn While Racing

There are mainly three ways to earn rewards while racing in Moonkarts, such as -

Picking Up COLONY Tokens on the Track

  • If you collect COLONY tokens on the track and win the race with them still in your inventory, you get all those Colony tokens for free.

  • However, if you lose the tokens or lose the race or don’t finish it, then you won’t earn those Colony tokens.

Earning from the Leaderboard

  • The game ranks its players based on a skill-based ELO system.

  • Daily and seasonal leaderboards distribute COLONY tokens among top performers based on this same ELO system.

Collecting Orbitals

  • Players can also collect Orbitals on tracks during a race and earn rewards based on the total number collected.

  • Players also get a multiplier on the total amount of Orbitals they earn on each race, which depends upon their cards used in the race.

  • Orbitals also have daily and seasonal leaderboards, with higher Orbital multipliers to players using High-level cards.

So basically, the game has used a mechanism here to reward better to those who spent more and have better cards. This means that the better your gear and the more skilled you are, the higher your earnings potential.

Earn More with Referrals

Though the Referral feature is still not available, in Moonkarts this feature will be added soon. Referral rewards will be an alternative earning method through its Referral Program in the game, without actually even playing the game. Players can share their own unique invite link with friends and family or in their communities. If a new player signs up to Moonkarts through the referral link and spends at least $20 in the Moonkarts store, the referrer earns Referral Points. For every additional $20 spent by referred players, more points are earned by the Referrer.

How Referral Rewards Are Distributed

  • 5% of the total rewards pool is allocated to referrers.

  • The more referral points a player has, the larger their share of the pool.

Example - If Mango has one referral and Burl has two, Mango gets one-third of the 5% Referral pool, while Burl will get two-thirds of that reward pool.

Referral Caps & Limitations

  • Referral Points are only earned when new players spend fiat currency or non-Arcade Colony tokens.

  • A single account can not earn more than 0.5% of the total rewards pool or 10% of the Referral Pool per day.

  • Unclaimed tokens will roll over and get added to the next day, increasing the referral rewards pool over time.

Moon Domes

Every big sport has its own world champion and Moonkarts will also get that crown one day soon. As stated in the whitepaper, in the future, Moonkarts will introduce Moon Domes, which will be player-owned stadiums or racetracks. Any race held in a Moon Dome will reward the owner of that dome with 10% of the total tokens earned in that race. This feature will create new earning opportunities and encourage investment in the Moonkarts ecosystem.

Last but not least, I think Moonkarts has great potential to be the next big thing in the crypto gaming realm. Moonkarts is more than just a racing game to me, it is a pure and thrilling play-to-earn experience where strategy, skill and investment determine your rewards. So, no matter if you are competing on leaderboards, collecting Orbitals and Colony tokens in Tracks, referring your friends or preparing funds to purchase a Moon Dome ownership, there are multiple ways to maximize your earnings in Moonkarts. As you understand how to play the game competitively through practice and also about the economy and rewards, then the time has come to hit the track my friend and push that gas pedal like a pro. All the best my fellow racer - so race smart and keep earning!
