Small Mana, Huge Wins: Surviving the Blast

in Olio di Balena14 days ago

Hello, Splinterlands Warriors!. Have you ever found yourself in a dilemma when choosing monsters for a battle with a low mana cap? Today, I want to share a story about my Battle of the Day—an intense match that taught me how to cleverly utilize rulesets and monster abilities, especially when mana is limited.

Here’s the scenario: the rulesets this time were Explosive Weaponry (with the Blast effect) and Unprotected, meaning no armor. I knew I had to focus on maximizing damage and my monsters’ survivability while anticipating my opponent's strategy. With such a low mana cap, my choice was to field only two monsters, but both had unique abilities: Retaliate and Enrage. This combination was perfect for this kind of ruleset.

My Team Strategy

I picked Drybone Barbarian as my main card. Why? Because its Enrage ability increases its Melee attack and speed when damaged, making it deadlier as the battle progresses. For support, I brought Vruz, a monster with the Martyr ability, to boost Drybone Barbarian’s stats after it inevitably fell to the Blast effect.

To gain an edge, I also used a summoner that reduced my opponent’s speed by 1 point. The strategy was simple: let Blast do its thing, activate Enrage, and ensure my monsters struck faster after lowering the enemy’s speed.

When the round started, I immediately saw the benefits of this combination. My opponent’s attacks triggered the Blast effect, which hurt Drybone Barbarian, but that’s exactly what I had been waiting for! Once Enrage kicked in, its attack power skyrocketed. Before the first round ended, Vruz had already fallen, but that only made Drybone Barbarian even more formidable thanks to the Martyr boost.

And then, Drybone Barbarian became an unstoppable force. One by one, the enemy monsters fell, unable to mount a counterattack in time. The Blast effect turned into a massive advantage, spreading extra damage to all of my opponent’s monsters.

Key Takeaways and Lessons

  1. Use Mana Cap Wisely
Instead of deploying multiple monsters, it’s better to focus on one or two with powerful abilities like Retaliate and Enrage.

  2. Rulesets Are Key
With rulesets like Explosive Weaponry and Unprotected, this strategy was incredibly effective. Choose monsters with high damage and leverage the area damage from Blast.

  3. Skill Synergy Matters
The Martyr effect from Vruz was a game-changer. Though it didn’t last long, its contribution was critical in empowering my main monster.

So, that’s my story for today. If you find yourself in a low mana cap battle, give this strategy a shot. Happy battling, and may you claim many victories in the Splinterlands arena! 💪
