This past weekend was one of those rare moments where everything just felt right. I'm not talking about just winning the Hive chess event for the second time in a row. I just feel everything in general felt okay. With everything going on in my life, I have found solace in playing and writing about chess again. Our online chess club president, who had been away in the UK, was finally back, and he arranged a meet-up for us in the chess group to reconnect over the board. I was skeptical and was not sure if I'd go. But eventually I went.
The meetup was for two days, with the main event on Friday. I almost forgot about Hive chess totally but I'm glad i was able to get back in time to play. On Saturday, was the same, we met and played chess, the followed our host back to the airport to bid him farewell
The atmosphere was cool, relaxed and filled with good vibes. I had a nice meals and few drinks. It's unusual to have a chess gathering like this without chess players drinking beer. We got down to playing chess. But what Zgm adet was truly interested in was Bug house chess. A chess variant he is a big fan of. I personally love bug house chess because of the team efforts and strategy. It brought a different vibe to the gathering and we had so much laughter, I even forgot at some point to press my clock, I was busying taking selfies and telling everyone I'd write about it and post the pictures.
Between moves, we found ourselves reminiscing about past tournaments, memorable games, even forgotten online tournament games, and the journey that brought us together as chess lovers. Laughter flowed easily and continuously, and for a while, everything else faded into the background. These moments reminded me why I love chess not just for the competition, but for the connections it builds and the joy it brings.
Conclusion
Lately, I’ve been writing a lot about chess, but beyond everything I write, tactics, and strategies, it’s gatherings like this that truly remind me why the game of chess is special. Life can be tough and annoying and frustrating, but moments like these spent with friends, doing what we love are what keep me going. I cherish them, and that’s why I write about them. Some memories are worth preserving, and for me, chess always finds a way to be at the heart of them.
