I experienced this frequently in the past - and flying from Western Canada over the Arctic is quite a view. Most spectacular on a direct flight from Calgary to London. You get the vastness of the land up north, a icy expanse of landscape devoid of any signs of population. Hudson Bay, Baffin Island, then Greenland
