Waiting Patiently to Get Treatment
Leg Cast
Getting Discharged
Send to Ward
Just when you think life's cruising along nicely, it throws you a curveball, doesn't it? That's exactly what happened to me two days ago on a scorching hot afternoon. I was at the academy, practicing my motorcycle skills to get ready for my retake Thursday's examination, and then - BAM! - things went south.
The Unexpected Skid
I was in the last few minutes of practice, working on emergency braking, when the bike hit a sand patch and skidded to the right. In the blink of an eye, I found myself lying on the ground, adrenaline pumping, pain radiating from my ankle. "This is going to mess up my exam tomorrow," I thought.
The Aftermath
I couldn't stand up properly, so I sat on the side to catch my breath before limping to a shaded area for a drink. A quick self-check revealed minor abrasions on my lower right palm and elbow. Thank goodness for the extra protective gear I was wearing, like gloves and knee caps, which were optional at the academy.
A Lackluster Response
Frankly, the academy's response to my accident left much to be desired. None of the instructors came to check on me or offer a first aid kit. I had to make a choice: drive home in pain or take a Grab. I chose to drive, relying mostly on my left leg to control the brake pedal. Yea, I know that's not suppose to be what I should do at that situation 😅
The Hospital Hunt
Upon reaching home, @joannewong had lunch ready for me, and we began looking for a hospital. We tried Prince Court Hospital in KL, but they had no available beds. After calling several hospitals on my insurance panel, we found Columbia Asia Hospital in PJ.
The Long Night
Navigating throught the rainy traffic jam took an hour plus, and I finally checked into the hospital around 8 pm. After a few X-rays on my swollen ankle, the specialist informed me of a small fracture that might require surgery. For now, they cast my ankle, hoping it would heal properly.
The Road to Recovery
I was finally warded around 1:30 am, but sleep didn't come easy with a cast on my leg. The healing process for a bone fracture may take about six weeks, followed by physiotherapy.
So here I am, facing six weeks of not able to move around freely, no motorcycle ride, and no examination. Life's full of surprises, isn't it? Just when you think you've got it all figured out, it just smack you left and right. But hey, that's what makes it interesting. Stay safe out there all, I'm now discharged and resting at my home!

Want to have your post on the map too?
Yikes! A fracture from the skid! And no one offered you any help?? That's really not on 😡 I guess public liability insurance isn't a thing there. Hopefully you won't need surgery and I'm sure you'll get plenty of TLC from Joanne ❤️
Yea I was shocked too to get fracture from such a low speed skid but hitting by a almost 180kg machine no kidding. Could have gotten worse if it wasn't with the gear that I'm wearing.
Yea indeed the SOP for the injury on the academy isn't up to par as I was expected, nonetheless, I just wanna pass my exam 🥲 don't wanna make a fuss out of it.
wishing good recovery
Thanks!

🙈 ....
This is probably the reason why my older brother will always refuse me to ride a bike, because I'm super clumsy. And your agility is definitely better yet a sand pit can do much harm.... I cannot imagine.
Joanne must be exhausted and relief to know all turned out well.
I am surprised that even private hospitals have no beds?? 😳
I would have thought that general hospitals will require 7 to 8 hours of wait to be warded.
Glad that you have insurance coverage too
After recalling the incident, I've concluded that hitting the brake slightly too hard causing the front tyre to lock up was the cause of the fall cuz the bikes on the academy isn't ABS equipped + it happen on a rather sandy patch which is a recipe for disaster.
Yea they told us influenza season was going around, that's why they are fully occupied on the bed. Haha general hospital will be even worst (I had that experience for the Dengue period + is during Covid season), the whole process to get a bed is like 36-48 hours iinm.
