I was in Berlin for a few days and although I'm from Germany, I've never been to Berlin before. I could have gone to Berlin once with my school, but none of my friends went and so I stayed at home. For many people, Berlin is a place of freedom, a place where they can be themselves. I was always a bit scared of Berlin, but I have to say the city really is amazing. The people were really nice, even though you always hear that Berliners are so unfriendly and rude. The Christmas markets have just started and it was just a super nice atmosphere. Of course I also went to see a few things, the Brandenburger Tor, Alexanderplatz, the Berlin Cathedral but also the famous KaDeWe department store where I didn't buy anything 😄
I also met up with one of my friends from my Erasmus semester abroad, as she was born and grew up in Berlin and it was really nice to learn how differently my friend perceives Berlin. I can understand that she doesn't feel so comfortable there, but as a tourist it's really nice, although I definitely have to visit Berlin in the summer. Our hotel also had a great location and was right on Kurfürstendamm and the train and bus network is really great. It's easy to get everywhere by public transport and there are even double-decker buses. Once we got on one at the top and traveled in a circle through the whole of Berlin and had a free city tour. It was also super cool to finally understand all the Berlin references from music, culture and movies :D I will definitely come back, that's for sure! :)
Estuve en Berlín unos días y, aunque soy alemana, nunca había estado en Berlín. Pude haber ido a Berlín una vez con mi colegio, pero ninguno de mis amigos fue y por eso me quedé en casa. Para mucha gente, Berlín es un lugar de libertad, un lugar donde pueden ser ellos mismos. Siempre me dio un poco de miedo Berlín, pero tengo que decir que la ciudad es realmente increíble. La gente es muy amable, aunque siempre se diga que los berlineses son antipáticos y maleducados. Los mercadillos de Navidad acaban de empezar y el ambiente era muy agradable. Por supuesto también fui a ver algunas cosas, la Brandenburger Tor, Alexanderplatz, la Catedral de Berlín pero también los famosos grandes almacenes KaDeWe donde no compré nada 😄
También me encontré con una de mis amigas de mi semestre Erasmus en el extranjero, ya que ella nació y creció en Berlín, y fue muy agradable saber lo diferente que mi amiga percibe Berlín. Puedo entender que ella no se sienta tan cómoda allí, pero como turista es realmente agradable, aunque definitivamente tengo que visitar Berlín en verano. Nuestro hotel también estaba muy bien situado, justo en Kurfürstendamm, y la red de trenes y autobuses es estupenda. Es fácil llegar a todas partes en transporte público e incluso hay autobuses de dos pisos. Una vez nos subimos a uno en la parte superior y viajamos en círculo por todo Berlín y tuvimos una visita casi gratuita de la ciudad. También fue genial entender por fin todas las referencias berlinesas de la música, la cultura y las películas :D ¡Seguro que volveré! :)
