"Dogroots" is the business name of my new employer. Though the profession of dog walking is known in other countries, in Germany it is just starting to kick off. I studied animal psychology and now I landed my dream job. Not after going through various other professions but it all comes together now.
Liketu came across my path a couple of days ago and I wanna give it a chance. New year new possibilities. I see it as an opportunity to share my work life for everyone to enjoy and maybe get the one or other valuable information from it. Within the blockchain I am fan of the PeakD interface and never used another one before. Liketu could most Likely become the one to share my profession on. Let's see what the journey brings.
I start out with my #wednesdaywalk group.
I had 6 dogs with me and some of them for the first time. Like the beautiful Rottweiler you see. I have a bus and pick the dogs up at their homes and often have the keys to the houses. When you are going to open a door where a Rottweiler and his friend is waiting, you have to make sure you know what you do.
For the dogs a strange person suddenly stands in the door and that can trigger their alert mode. You don't want that with a 110lbs Rottweiler lol. As you can see I'm still alive so it worked out well.
To start forming a bond between you and the dogs doing adventerous, exciting things is key. We don't just walk along a street, how boring would that be?! Instead I wonder of the trails a bit. The dogs can discover, jump in stinky ponds and behave like dogs for a moment.
Being the one initiating activities like that makes the dogs bond with you as a leader of joy. Over the course of the time they start seeing you as the party animal they better follow because no one wants to miss out on the fun.
See you in the pack! :)

iHeart you and people like you. I do not heart people who are growled at by dogs.
Sometimes Pura will mention dog walking when we rabbit hole what we'll do in England when we get back. I've waited nearly 9 years (and counting) since my last GSD so I'll be swamped. Her name was Rook.
There's quite a few dog walking / dog sitting / dog bathing type apps in case you're unaware. Plenty of dogs would love to have your attention. Check it out, iHeart dogs so much I get all soft like this and don't even curse or anything and make gif's.
Gosh Dan...your soft side makes me melt.
I know those apps but I'm happy to have found an official assignment with a regular pay. Often those app walkers are self employed or unofficial. I have at least a bit of a security if something would happen being employed.
If Pura is into dog walking then go ahead! It doesn't have to be the big ones or youngsters. Even old dogs appreciate someone taking them out and then it is not as stressful in the beginning.
6 at once is no light feat of leash handling! I can imagine the fun of out walking with all that happiness bouncing around. Enjoy!
Note: Reply on Liketu didn't work somehow...over to PeakD. Just in case it shows up double later lol.
The leash thing, yah lol. It can be tricky and funny to watch for others. But that's why I'm working on training them all to listen without me having to grab the leashes. Quite some tasks here lol. Betty is welcome to the pack of course 😁
You are a brave woman, hats off lady! 🐶
Lol thanks. I wouldn't call myself brave, maybe experienced enough to trust my abilities. Even though handling a pack of up to 14 dogs is also new to me. But in the end they are individuals and once you learn how their characters are it is like with a bunch of friends. You handle them according to their needs lol.
Looking at the photos all I can think of those dogs running in every direction, crossing each other and at some point you have a bunch of tangled leashes. 😂🐶
In any case, you're exceptional, anything but boring 😜
Congrats!
Oh for sure there is enough to laugh at for others if I have to untangle the Kindergarten. I laugh at myself hoping that no one sees me at times 😂. But once they roam free the leashes untangle themselves and maybe one day they just walk heel each in their spot.
I'm sure there will be some funny material showing up here in the future 😉
I like your new friends!
I was a dog groomer for two long decades. I miss working with the dogs, but I don't miss the work. I look forward to vicariously dogging through you!
Lol. Two decades of fuzziness? I can imagine you don't miss the work. What do you do now? Grooming crows? 😂 Sorry, my mind you know.
I WISH I groomed crows, but they have a rule: they can touch me but I can't touch them. Not fair.
These days instead of dematting dogs I demat muscles and fascia. Massage therapy, mostly for pain relief and car accidents.
I have seen mention of liketu but haven't checked it out yet, I guess I am a creature of habit and very happy with using Peakd, but it does hurt to check out other options
Beautiful looking dogs and glad you have found a job you love
Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)
I am happy with PeakD as well and had to edit the post on it a bit. The images still have the metadata or what it's called and I like to remove them. Like the (IMG...) and stuff. Probably have to do it right away before uploading them. None the less I will give it a try as it seems to be a good way to share job related content. I never used Insta but I know people like pictures and this is a good way to add some short dog related information to them without overwhelmingly explanations. I don't know, we'll see.
You may end up with a wednesdaywalk pack lol :)
I should take the time to go and check it out maybe i will do that now ;)
Can't hurt ;). I mean it's still developing and needs some improvements here and there but...ahhh check it out for yourself 😄
I took a quick look it does have an Instagram feel to it
I find peakd works well for me so will probably stick to it
Fair enough :).

It must to great doing a job that you love, not everyone has that opporunity. Dog walking has been popular in UK for quite a few years already to the extent I think there have been talks of regulations like how many dogs you can walk at the same time. I think that was due to some dog walkers walking too many dogs and of different breeds making it dangerours to the public and the dogs. Anyway, it will be interesting to see how the dog walking industry develops in Germany
It was a long way finding this job and hopefully I still like it in a year lol. There is a limit to how many dogs you should go with I agree. Especially if you move in public space. We have a maximum of around 14 for the small ones and 10 for the large ones. But I guess quantity over quality is the rule with some in that business.
Thanks for dropping a comment and I hope to see you around in future posts. :)
Hello, and Welcome!
I'm glad you managed to figure things out with logging in and getting a post out. We will add a lot of cosmetic user interface improvements to help newcomers (particularly those not on hive) with getting started in the near future.
As for these pictures, wow!
I don't look after any dogs but I've been thinking about doing so for quite some time. You see, I'm an avid runner and I have seen a lot of people take their dogs out with them on their jogs. It's like killing two birds with one stone, I get to do my exercise and also walk them everyday.
On the downside, we don't have these kinds of settings near where I live, I would have to get in the car and drive a fair distance which would almost defeat the point in the first place. Still, it remains something I'm adamant on trying perhaps slightly later on in life.
Thanks for sharing and looking forward to seeing more.
Hey thanks for the welcome :)
I'm sure there will be constant improvement and I'm glad you guys have an open ear for the users.
Maybe the one or other post helps you in your decision when it comes to a dog, that would make me happy.
I have to say only running wouldn't do the job. There is so much more they need than physical exercise. I hear you on the surroundings though. Having to drive in the first place is a pain but you would have to do it certainly. But as you said, no time to rush. I like that you see it this way. It is a responsible way of handling the wish for a dog vs. living circumstances. In the end you get a family member of several years. They are the kids that don't leave the house lol.
That's a good looking pile of pups you got :) I used to do something similar, except instead of walking the dogs we would take them running. Pretty cool line of work!
