After living in Gibraltar for 3 years me and the Mrs have conquered the Rock many times, so here’s my top recommendations If you decide to travel this way!

  1. Visit the Barbary macaques in the nature reserve, just be sure to have no food on you as they’re always hungry and a little aggressive.
  2. Take a cable car ride to the top of the rock.
  3. Challenge yourself by completing the ‘Med steps’ all the way to highest point of the Rock - it’s a challenge but the scenery is beautiful and on a clear day you can easily see 3 countries! (Spain, Morocco and Gibraltar). Plus there's a massive gun on the top which is certainly worth seeing!
  4. Not only can you climb to the top of the rock, but you can also cave to the bottom of it! Book a tour of the many natural caves and you can spend hours out the sun and see unbelievable beauty, there’s even a small lake deep inside and it’s breath taking!
  5. Walk across the live runway and watch the planes take off or land at a super close distance.
  6. VAT free shopping! Visit main street for great deals on perfumes, alcohol, tobacco, electronics (apple products!) and designer clothes.
  7. Visit Sandy Bay beach, our favourite beach in Gibraltar. The sand is soft and the bay is situated so the water stays very calm.
  8. Visit Little bay restaurant in Ocean Village. For a great Indian meal visit this restaurant, as we believe it’s the best in Gibraltar hands down. The tandoori grilled salmon is superb!
  9. Walk the lap of Gibraltar. The best way to see Gib is on foot. To complete a lap is around 10km, with some up hill, so it’s not a stroll in the park. But you get to see some landmarks like the Rock hotel, Europa point, Catalan Bay and Gibraltar super yacht harbour.
  10. Take a boat trip to see the dolphins in the bay between Spain and Gibraltar. Boat trips are always fun but when you include 100s of dolphins and A320s landing nearby it’s even more exciting!

As you can see, there’s certainly a lot to do in Gibraltar but when you factor in you can walk across the border and get to Spain in minutes, this also unlocks many more experiences too. In my next post, I’ll outline 10 travel tips when travelling to the Costa del sol.

All the best
Els
