Another common question that I get is:
How are you able to fit in climbing hard with your job?
The first thing is that I always try (at any cost) to fit in a really good training session complete with a proper warm up and cool down routine which I can cover in another post.
Both my jobs are to do with Data Engineering which is my field of expertise although the 2nd job is more of a side hustle with my sole client who is based in the USA, which allows me some flexibility to fit in the evening training session before working into the early hours daily. For a lot of my adult life I only have become familiar with living as a bread winner for the family even more so since my mother and father have suffered enormous pay cuts as a result of the pandemic; my younger sister also does work but with rising living costs it is never enough. I have been fortunate to supplement my income from my day time job with my side hustle although recently since the start of the year, I haven't had a proper break from either job unfortunately and it does affect me mentally and physically
Here is my typical day as a full breakdown during the weekdays (Mon - Fri)
08:30 - wake up
09:00 - 18:00 - day time job
18:00 - 18:30 (nap)
18:30 - 19:00 - replying to emails on my 2nd job email
19:00 - 19:30 - travelling to the climbing gym
19:30 - 23:00 - training
23:00 - 23:40 - travelling home
23:40 - 00:00 - short break
00:00 - 03:00 - working 2nd job
03:00 - 03:30 - chill out time then sleep
What about the weekends?
The weekends I mainly spend a lot of the daytime just working at my 2nd job and sometimes for my day job in case there is a necessity that I need to take on extra hours although I do not get paid extra for it. Should my training plan allow for it, I also train more in the evening although I climb considerably lighter in effort or I focus on climbing endurance.
p.s. I couldn't find a good pic to go with this post so here is an old photo of me in Shinjuku, Tokyo when I travelled alone there in 2018 March (I know I am not good looking at all, so not going to post my face on here often)

Seems like we don't have enough hours in the day to do the things we want to do, and we must reduce the amount of sleep to accommodate that.
Always been the case for me, I have been failing for the last few years to become independent of the 9 to 5 and I am kinda just constantly in a loop. I really want to escape it knowing that at my current age I will not have much time to enjoy a lot of the hard climbs that I want to do. My only hope is that this year things can really turn around: I can support my family, afford to live on my own somewhere and be able to climb full time.
