Hello everyone. During a weekend we spent in Sweden, we visited an amusement park and zoo. This place located in Kolmården, is quite famous in the country. There are many activities for young children, older children and even adults. It is a wonderful place for all ages. We first passed through a section specifically designed for kids. Everything here is themed around Bamse the Bear. There are various attractions and souvenir shops. This area is ideal mostly for younger children. Later on we explored the parts meant for older visitors as well.
The park is actually quite large. If you have small children and are not using a stroller, you can rent one at the entrance for about 70 kronor. This makes it easier to walk longer distances. There are dedicated parking spots for strollers, so you will not have any issues in that regard. Also all attractions are included in the ticket price and do not require additional payment.
The scenery here is beautiful. I would like to share an important tip about food. The food stands in the park usually offer simple things like sausages and soft drinks. If your child has a special diet or prefers certain types of food, I recommend bringing your own. Another useful tip is that the park was quite empty when we went because we arrived close to opening time on a Monday morning. Thanks to that, there were no lines at many attractions.
Indoor areas are ideal for lunch. For example, you might come across traditional Swedish dishes like pölsa or pancakes. There are also shows in the park but you need to check the schedule on the website. Especially during colder weather, the number of shows may decrease or they might be shortened. In the summer sitting outside is much more enjoyable. The shows are short so children can easily follow them.
Among the other important activities in the area is a small American-style trail. This spot is especially popular in summer because there is a fountain where kids can play with the water. So during the summer, it offers a slightly different atmosphere. In winter, of course, the scenery changes. When it snows and Christmas decorations go up, the park gains a magical feel.
I should also mention the gift shop. There are plenty of Bamse-themed products and symbols. After that we headed toward the more interesting part of the park. This was actually the area we most wanted to visit. As we moved forward, we could see wide open spaces and areas where animals roam freely. Since it opened in 1965 this park has been home to Sweden’s only marine mammal aquarium.
We moved along slowly. During autumn and winter, some animals may be less visible but we were lucky and saw many predators. The animals look well cared for and happy. I think the most exciting experience in the park was the ride on the cable car system suspended in the air. I especially want to highlight this part because it evokes incredible emotions.
There was almost no line for the cable car because we arrived at opening time and it was a Monday. I imagine the situation is quite different in summer. So when planning your visit, I suggest considering the possible waiting times. The entire ride takes about thirty minutes and during that time you get the chance to see many animals up close such as predators, birds, primates and more.
