We have a hot plate at home which we sometimes use in this way, but there's something special about being served good quality meat (that you don't have to go to the butcher's and buy and prepare yourself) and cooking it together in a convivial atmosphere... and then get served spicy Korean "kuppa" afterwards!

Actually, I felt the same way about cook-your-own style restaurants when I first came to Japan. I enjoy yakiniku restaurants like this one, but I'm still not so keen on "cook your own okonomiyaki" (a popular Japanese savory pancake) restaurants because the cooking process is much more complicated. In that case, I want the professionals to cook one for me. :)
