Oh dear, my Aunt is unwell today

When I reached her doorstep at 12pm, I noticed her voice was slightly unusual. She then told me that she was not well since Tuesday. It started with flu and then throat irritation. She said thankfully she did not have any fever except that she experienced difficulty to sleep on Wednesday night due to some joint pain.

I felt so bad to find out late and that she still cooked for us today. However, she said, cooking was a way for her to relax and to wind down, she really did not mind at all. Also, today she felt way better except her voice had not returned to normal.

What she cooked today

She cooked for us her weekly signature dish called Hakka steamed minced pork which she marinated the minced pork with soy sauce and pepper, added in some chopped preserved vegetables, added in one egg, mixed altogether, topped with slices of salted fish, then brought to steam for half an hour. Super delicious.

On top of that, she cooked for us chicken casserole. She told me initially the chicken drumsticks were supposed to be baked together with the carrots and potatoes, however she prepared too many chicken drumsticks and her oven was not spacious enough for the whole thing. Therefore, she splitted the dish into two types; carrot, peas and potatoes one dish, chicken drumsticks another dish. It was cooked with seasoning such as chicken stock, salt and pepper and some oyster sauce.

What she cooked for New Year

I realised I had not written on her joy of cooking for New Year, which she celebrated on 31st December with us. She happily cooked dishes which we loved, so I must jot it down.

One of it had got to be huge amount of fried chicken fillets, fried fish nuggets and fried prawns. The reason she cooked such a big mountain was because she wanted to celebrate God's goodness and providence. Wow!

She also cooked pork slices with purple cabbage. She mentioned that somehow she was attracted by the purple cabbage, feeling some sense of royalty, so she changed her menu, instead of cooking the pork slices with preserved vegetables, she used purple cabbage. It turned out very savoury, has some natural sweetness from the cabbage. Lastly, a simple broccoli stirfry with mushrooms. This one was super yummy too.

Hearing her voice still sounded different, I had some concern. She knew it and quickly assured me that she was fine. I reminded her few time to always, always, remember to call us for help if she was not well. Luckily, it was nothing serious, and non-Covid19 related. From the bottom of my heart, I bless her to be healthy and strong.

P/S: I was super thankful to God for one happening on Friday. Not sure how, it was super rushed Friday for me, and I forgot to eat my lunch except a cup of coffee. By the time I reached my student's house for tuition, I was so hungry at 5:30pm. A special thing happened. Suddenly, the maid came out and said boss asked to serve a cup of hot chocolate and some banana fritters. I almost teared because I was indeed in need of some food. Suddenly felt famish. I finished my class at 6:30pm and had some time drinking and eating while chitchatting with my student. I could not be more thankful for the drink and food. 🙏🙏🙏

Many times, it was the little things added up which made life so beautiful. A little kindness and blessings go a long way. I am very thankful for my Aunt who cooks for us every Saturday. And I am thankful for the food served to me during my tuition. 😍
