Hello Hive!
I would like to share this fun experience during our camping at Mt. Kan-Irag, Cebu City. If you are looking for an easy trail to start your hiking and camping in the mountains, I would suggest the Mt. Kan-Irag camping site. This is my go to mountain if I only want to escape the hustle and bustle in the city and after an exhausting work week. The Kan-Irag peak or Mt. Kan-Irag is also known as the Sirao Peak. It's one of the most visited camping sites in Cebu City. Knowing that it's only within the city, it's also very convenient for campers as it has a shortcut trail that everyone can do.
Hikers can definitely reach Mt. Kan-Irag for only about 30 minutes depending on your pacing. If you want a challenging trail, you can try it by passing the Budlaan trail. Most day hikers prefer traversing Budlaan as it starts from the bottom at Brgy. Budlaan wherein you'll come across rivers, waterfalls, boulders, and long mountain hikes passing residential areas in lower and upper Budlaan. I will make a separate article for the Budlaan-Sirao trail.
If you only like a chill hike and go overnight camping enjoying the city view from the Kan-Irag peak, you can go directly to Ayala Heights from JY Mall Lahug. There are motorbikes for hire around JY Mall and they are very aware of the Mt. Kan Irag drop off. The fare is around 150-200 pesos (3.00-4.00 US Dollars) per person. If you are very familiar with Sirao Peak and you have a vehicle, it's better to bring a motorbike, however be informed of the parking fee at the campsite.
If you are a type of person who doesn't like camping for the reason that it's very inconvenient and uncomfortable for you not to take a bath or worries if nature calls you, this is a perfect campsite for you! They have a few improvised bathrooms with flowing water and a dirty kitchen if you want to cook something but be sure to bring charcoal and other cooking essentials and they are all free of charge. They also have a mini retail store basically Kan Irag's one stop shop.
It's really a perfect spot to watch sunrise and the beautiful city view at night. There'll be more campers during weekends so I would suggest to be early so you would have a chance to choose the best area to set your tents up as everyone prefers to have the spot facing directly to the view.
It's really good for solo or group camping but be sure to be considerate with other campers. It doesn't mean that there are no restrictions in the area , we can do everything we want. Be mindful of your voices and music specially during sleeping hours. I've encountered it so many times that we were unable to sleep because some of the campers near our tents were very loud and still had their loud music on. We all wanted to destress and enjoy our stay so we should consider other people all the time. A friendly reminder to always remember the LEAVE NO TRACE principles of mountaineering.
That's basically it, I hope you liked this episode and I hope to interact with you in the comment section below. Everyone's glad to hear the stories of yours! Just always remember that learning is a lifetime process. You can learn from your experiences, trips, and other people. The world is so vast. Explore and Learn!
