The dog was shedding like it was the end of winter. It is so confusing to me how the shedding actually works. These Bernese mountaindogs have a protecting layer of fur beneith their normal coat. My normal brain would say that their winter coat needs more insulation and because of that it would be thicker which they would loose at the end of winter when the summer coat is enough.
But nothing of that is true. Always when it starts getting really cold the dog starts loosing his fur and this goes on for weeks loosing it in chunks at a time. Combing helps for the day, and the next day it is the same thing again. The one thing that really helps is letting the dog swim so the fur can wash out the old hairs. And that is where we were heading, regardless of the temperatures. These guys thrive in snow. A little bit of cold water for a bit wont do anything wrong. So I headed towards the lake on a cloudy day for a good soak.
And the dog loves water a lot! Funny it is how they can smell it from a distance and already start running. I was totally distracted by this old trees that seemed to have been stuck by lightning that I didn't notice the dog had already ran towards the water. He came running back soaking wet and immediately afterwards I saw an elderly couple walking there also with water spots on them. I apologized more than a thousand times but they didn't even seem to matter than much because they were laughing on how soaked the dog looked. But still oopsie!!!!
It was calm near the lake the tranquility made me stroll along much longer than I had anticipated. Mushrooms everywhere, fallen leaves everywhere, and silence everywhere. By the time I reached the dog was already dog and so soft again.
Until the next morning when again everything was totally covered in fur. Ow well....
