Salsa Music is one of hundreds of variations and rhythms contained under Latin Music, and Latin America is the big geographycal area from Mexico (the northern part,just below USA) to Argentina (the southern part) plus Spain in Europe.
This area includes more than 30 countries, all of them speak spanish but Brasil, which does portuguese, idiom that is roughly half of spanish, meaning that if you speak spanish then you understand about 50% of portuguese as well.
The most accepted origin of Salsa and Latin Music by experts and researchers is in the Africa to America' slave smuggling trade around the year 1.500, so it is a very rich and lenghty history of more than 500 years.
One of so many Salsa Music' variations and rhythms is Pachanga, which was in full swing during the late 1950's, 1960's and early 1970's, but even today is played in many gigs, events, festivals and clubs acrosss the globe. The La Playa Sextet was a very successful pachanga' specialized band with great sounds and innovation.

Members have been : Paul "Payo" Alicea (founder, guitar, bass, percussionist), Marie Alicea (vocals), Paul Alicea (timbales), Frank Sanchez (guitar), Ray Mantilla (percussion).
They are also known as Sexteto La Playa, The La Playa Sextet, The La Playa Orchestra.
