London is well known for being an expensive city, I don't think many will disagree with that. If you want to grab a coffee in a nice independent cafe, it won't cost you an arm and leg, but it's easy to make a little dent in your wallet. Most Londoners are used to the high cost of living, and just get on with it. Tolerate or acceptance?

The other week I was passing by Mayfair behind Oxford Street in London. I was looking for a nice cafe to sit down for a break, but knowing that not much comes cheap around this area, I wasn't holding my hopes high (do I sound like a cheapskate ^_^ ) Suddenly I passed by a church-like building and a couple of guys were sat outside drinking coffee. The entrance looked really grand that it could easily be a 5 star hotel. Interesting I thought, had to explore.

Talk of a gem, this was top notch and I was gobsmacked with what I found! The inside was absolutely stunning, black and white tiled floors by the entrance, and there was a set of beauitful double wooden doors leading further in. It really was a church, but it had been converted to a canteen style cafe. The ambience was very casual and very community like, not rowdy at all and for animal lovers, furrry friends are very welcome. I couldn't believe a place like this existed just behind Oxford Street in London. And the best thing? A cup of coffee didn't make a dent in my wallet. Given the beautiful surroundings, the price wasn't too different from a normal high street cafe. Perfect for cheapskates like me!!!

It turns out this place is called Mercato Metropolitano and is part of a sustainable community project that started in a disused railway station at the Milan World Expo in 2015. The organisaiton has 3 locations in London, with 3 more to come including one in Berlin. Living in London isn't always bad, at least we get the advantage of these awesome places. According to their website, their manifesto promotes shared values and collective action towards a more sustainable future for all. To be honest, that sound a little fluffy to me, but you get the idea on what they're trying to achieve.

I think I found the perfect place for the next Hive meet up in London..... whenever.

looks very luxurious, it's a long way for me to enjoy a cup of coffee there.

Cool finding indeed. Good to see that an existing structure is given a new chance. And that you can bring your fluffy friends is awesome too. Best customers if you treat them well, the bartender in me speaking here ;).

A bar tender and a dog lover!!! Seems like this place is definitely for you

Lol, add some others to it. My profile quote is from the Coyote ugly chick. I worked at Coyotes Heidelberg for 8 years and it fits me pretty well lol. I'll be the one mixing stuff at the fest ;).

How a post influences people .. I'm going to visit there tomorrow because I like the look of it so much from your post. And I was sold before I read what you wrote about it!

That's fantastic!!! Let me know what you think. They have an outdoor terrace as well, but there isn't any view, but great for smokers I guess.

mmm... i posted before I finished my comment. Is there any plans to make the comment box bigger than a single line? It's not very user friendly at the moment. And whilst I'm on it, the bottom section of the front page only shows 20 posts. How can I see more ? Thanks

If you're using the mobile version of the site, then I suggest trying out the desktop one. The mobile one is basically redundant at this point as it is being totally reworked into it's own app as we speak.

On the desktop, you can continuously scroll down and more content will appear.

Commenting is being totally reworked as well. It is actually quite difficult to comment on there right now and we've been aware of that for some time. As someone that makes about 100 comments a day, I know that it can be debilitating so it is high up on our list of priorities. Just have to bear with us for now.

Could go on all day about the problems and what we'd like to have fixed right now, and we're mostly aware of that, it's just allocating human resources to address it is a matter of allocating limited resources (time) to fixing and improving it all.

I'm on the laptop not mobile, but I think I figured out what the problem is. It's coz I'm on Firefox. It's ok on Chrome, I see more posts as I scroll down.

And just to add another one to your list. I couldn't respond to your latest comment on Liketu as it wasn't there. I could see all other comments there, including instantly all the ones I made.

btw, not knocking back your dapp with all these comments, these are genuine feedback because I know you're putting a ton of effort into all this and it would be a pity if you lose users because the site is not user friendly enough.

Yes, feedback, particularly the constructive kind as is the case here is always welcome.

We always knew it would be pretty buggy, especially once enough people started to use it and stuff we didn't get to test inside out starts breaking.

The comments is being reworked entirely as that's actually something I use quite religiously.. it would be a shame if I couldn't continue threads with people such as yourself on the site itself.

beautiful images

Next time in town, I’m tempted to go there. Thanks for telling us about it. Maybe a Hive meet?

Yeah, bring it on, a Hive meet up would be great there
