Hellebores here as a reminder of the coming spring, even as we head into the deepest part of the winter.
I didn’t notice these in the garden until a full month later last year, when larger patches of them emerged in the flower beds under a low-growing tree and not being familiar with Lenten Roses, I had to use a plant app to identify them but this year I have been on the lookout and these tough, early season flowers have not disappointed.
They are such a welcome spot of color while most everything else is still fast asleep.
I notice them in nurseries now about this time of year (they’re hardy in zones 3-9) and they can be grown from seed and re-seed pretty easily, although will take a year or two to produce flowers.
