My boyfriend and I aren't the type who lavishly celebrates monthsaries. In fact, in our almost 5-year relationship, I can only count with my hands the times we went out for dinner to celebrate our special day. It's not because our special day is not a big deal; we're just practical people who'd rather spend on more important things like mortgage and bills.
From time to time, we still treat each other. There's this famous cupcake shop near our new home called Cupcaken. I've been eyeing to visit the shop but didn't have compeling reasons to. Not until our monthsary. I felt a sudden urge to buy my boyfriend something nice for our monthsary so finally after four months of passing by, I finally dropped by to get some goodies in Cupcaken.
Their shop has an interesting interior that can drew attention from people, who like me, are always passing by this shop. It is located in Banawa a few meters away from Paseo Arcenas, a booming business distric in Cebu City.
Aside from the interior, I've been curious why the shop is never jampacked with customers. Every time I passed by, I'd only see one and if lucky, 4 customers at one time. "Their food must be bad," I reckoned but when I looked them up in the internet, people were saying the opposite. According to reviews, they have one of the best cupcakes in town.
I was the only customer when I came at around 6 in the evening. A cozy music in the background with all the warm lights made the place reverberates a homey vibe that would easily make customers fall in love with the place. I was welcomed by an attentive attendant who took my orders quickly. I had them for takeaways. While they're wrapping up my order and the bill, I roamed around the spacious shop and was happy with everything I saw. The interior design is unique although I must say a lot of their real-life decors such as bicyles, vintage motorcyles and other antique collectibes filled the space in a good way.
The judgment? Sadly, the cupcakes I got were too dry for me. The flavor was on point but each bite was a sad realization that maybe the goodies had been stored for an extended period of time. I hope I can get their freshly bake cupcakes soon! Nonetheless, my boyfriend still enjoyed them, both of us actually. :)
