I think that one of the hardest lessons to learn and to really internalize is that good. Things don't always follow from good decisions and bad things don't always follow from bad decisions.
I guess it sounds a little obvious, but if you look at the way people react to events, it's clear that we still have these expectations in mind.
This isn't an argument for "God's plan" (ugh) or lack of caution.
It's recognizing the limitations of foresight and hindsight, how we process the vicissitudes of life, and most of all being kinder to ourselves and others.
