Jakarta in ancient times before it changed its name was Batavia (Betawi). Batavia (Betawi which is still in use today) is a name given by the Dutch during the trading colony which is now growing into Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia. Batavia was once founded in a port called Jayakarta which was taken from the power of the Sultanate of Banten in the old era. Before being controlled by Banten, this port was known as Kalapa or Sunda Kalapa, and was one of the trading points of the Sunda Kingdom. It was from this port city that the VOC first controlled trade and military and political power in the archipelago. The name Batavia was used around 1620 until the 1940s, when the Dutch East Indies fell into Japanese hands. As part of Nederlandization, the name of the city was changed to Jakarta.

Andddd… Now the city of Jakarta is very well known as the center of the Indonesian economy. The old buildings during the Batavia era are still standing strong here even though many corners of the building need to be renovated, but they still have their own charm. Even on certain days there are very many people visiting here and there are lots of things that we can enjoy such as some people playing skateboards or walking on bicycles that we can rent there.

There are so many interesting things that we can get while we are here. Not only local tourists who are here, but also a target for foreign tourists to re-investigate the old history and enjoy the view of the city during the Batavia era.
