The Pedicab
Have u ever sat a pedicab everywhere? If u ‘s been, I’m guessing you’re definitely Asian. Because Asian people have been using rickshaws as a vehicle for a long time. Some new generation many not have seen a pedicab.
When I was a primary school student, my mother hired a pedicab to take us to school with my 2 sisters. In Thai language we called a pedicab was .. Sam-lor . ( Sam means three , lor means wheel) The distance from home to school was about 2 kilometers. Over 50 years ago, there were no school buses to serve the people. Most of students who lived near school walked or rode bicycles. I prefer rode a pedicab rather than walk to school. I was small girl so i sat on my sister’s lap. It made me amused because i watched my friends sat on a pedicab as well and we waved to say hi.
Seeing the crowded cars in those days was not easy and not imagine . I remembered only taxis were available. Your chances to see the accidents occurred were difficult. There were more pedicabs than taxis and cars. Pedicabs were available for rent at cheap prices . The way of life in my Udonthani Province this period was simple. Most people in town used pedicab in their daily lives. I ‘d never heard of adults complained about expensive gas. ( We didn’t have a car. 😀) I can said that I was able to educate without difficult because i rode a pedicab until the end of the university.

History of pedicab. In 1933 a pedicab was born in Korat Province by the Air Chief Marshal
Luean Pongsophon had been converted from Chinese rickshaw. After that , pedicabs became a vehicle, starting to used in Bangkok, a capital and other provinces. Fare rates started from 5-10 baht in those days. Currently the price is about 40-80 baht, depending on distances.
General components of pedicab must have seats for two persons and must have a hood for sun and rain. There are two lights
on the back of crate. The pedicabs can be used in two types, carrying passengers and carrying small cargos. Nowadays, pedicabs profession has began to disappear from the lifestyle of the provincial people cause of the advancement in technology, we have cars , buses , minibus and motorcycles. In addition , there’s been a modification of pedicab to be a Tuk - Tuk by engine mounted.
Therefore, there are fewer pedicabs in my province. Most passengers are elderly who still sitting behind . They are familiar with cyclists. They don’t need speed. I think pedicabs will soon disappear from the way of life. People prefer the speed of traveling more. In the future, pedicabs will only be a legend and will be kept in a museum. The ancients said … “ The old things go, The new things come.” The truth way of life.
…🚗🚕🚓🚙🚑🛵🏍..
Thanks .. Have a nice day!

I can understand with technology why these might soon disappear which is a big shame but I thought people would still find them useful for sort journeys, would it not be cheaper than a bus ride?
