Hiking in Lanzarote, Canary Islands

Lanzarote, Land of sun, sea and volcanos. Not the fist place many people think of visiting to go hiking but it’s one place I can recommend for Luna landscapes and views from coast to coast. The island may be hot dusty and barren but it can still provide some good hikes.

In the south west of the island there’s a resort area known as Playa Blanca normally flocked to by those who want to soak up the sun, lay on the beach and drink cheap beer. If you want to do something more adventurous you can head back in land to the village of Femés park up and head out onto the trail giving you views of the coast and Playa Blanca.

About 30 mins after leaving Femes you can stand on top Pico de La aceituna 487m above sea level looking south towards the peak of Hacha Grande the destination of this hike.

From here you head south around the side of Pico Redondo following a cut out for a water supply pipe to a goat farm.

Once you reach the goat farm keep heading down until you meet the waypoint.

From here it’s up and up until you reach the peak of Hacha Grande561m. From here you have views over Playa Blanca and across to the Island of Fuerteventura.

After you have rested you then retrace you steps back to Femes. Take note the islands gets blasted by the trade winds and although it looks hot and sunny it can be quite cool when exposed on the side of a hill.
