Attending my first HIVE event | HIVE Hackathon at IIT, Delhi, India

in BuzzParty Meet Hive!2 days ago (edited)

Hello and welcome back to my blog.

This is my fourth year on this blockchain and I have never attended an offline Hive event despite living so close to Delhi. But that was about to change as I prepared to attend an event about a week ago.

This event (TRYST 2025) was a science and technology festival organized by the students of IIT Delhi and HIVE was the co-title sponsor of this event. A hackathon was organized focusing on Hive.

The coding challenge already started a few days ago and the shortlisted teams were invited to IIT, Delhi to present their projects. I was there to meet the community and see the talented budding developers who could be the next big project on Hive.

It was a three-day long event focused on promoting Hive and no better venue than a tech fest in the capital of the country in one of the biggest technology institutes in India...right?

I planned to go to the second day, the day of presentations, specifically the 11th of March. It takes about an hour from my place to get there. I had no trouble entering this place, I just had to sign up on a given website at the gate.

The only person I knew that I could rely on there was @blackheart1. He was the one managing this event along with @finfarm. You might know him from his gaming projects like Dungeon Cities and Mutera on Hive.

I was a bit late and once you enter the institute, you will see infographics about HIVE all over the place.

These were placed in multiple locations, where you will not be able to miss them. But I miss there were directions on it to reach the Lecture Hall complex. That campus was massive and I had never been here. This was my first visit. Many students in India dream of studying here but a very competitive scene kills those ambitions and dreams. I wasn't one of those hard-working students lol.

(I would recommend watching Kota Factory if someone wants to know what it takes to study in one of such institutes in India)

It was a large lecture hall where a presentation on Hive was going on. I just caught the last few minutes of the presentation. It was well put by Aryan Malhotra, the speaker and founder of FinFarm.

Afterwards, it was time for the participants to give presentations. I talked to some team members there and shared my experience of being with Hive with them. Not publically on the stage but just meeting them after the presentation. Most of them were students and freshers taking part in coding hackathons.

While many ideas were generic like Analytics tools, some were interesting. For those who couldn't attend in person, there was an option to participate virtually and present it online too.

@blackheart1 was busy with all the work and I didn't want to disturb him. We had some talks in between the busy schedule.

I was excited to meet him in person. I have had a discord interview of sorts where he was the guest speaker and we had a long talk about his Mutera project. But that was a couple of years ago. I don't know what I was expecting but one thing was sure, I wasn't expecting him to be that nice. Reminded me of myself, a soft-spoken nerd lol.

I am a big introvert, especially meeting with someone for the first time in person. I made some new friends there. I wanted to go back the next day but something came up at home and I couldn't go. But I promise I will go and meet everyone at the next event. Hopefully, there will be a meetup somewhere in Delhi. Wouldn't be too hard to organize...right, @blackhear1 bhai?

Many other fun activities were happening all over the campus. As the weather became cooler in the evening many people started gathering around the various stalls and activities.

The HIVE team had a busy stall too. It was a simple dart game giving you a chance to win Hive merchandise for free. All you had to do was follow some social media accounts related to Hive and get a chance to throw the dart. Depending on your score you could win cool merch like hats, stickers, stationery items with HIVE branding etc.

I tried my hands on it too. It was fun and believe it or not that was somehow my first ever dart throw too. Such a simple game and I never played it, can't believe lol. Anyway, I still got into the outer ring and managed to win some goodies. Also, at the end of the presentation part in the lecture hall, all the teams were given some Hive merchandise as well.

They were nice enough to give me some goodies too. You already saw the hat, here are some more. I love the quality of those products too, especially the bottle.

There were some online competitions as well like a meme contest based on the event.

We took some group photos as well. Not sure if they were uploaded somewhere. I can't see them on the social media accounts. You can find more videos of the event at the @HiveBharat account on X.

It was a fun event and I enjoyed my stay there. Big shoutout to the entire management team. It is not easy to

Other events were happening at this festival. Some of them were just exhibitions by technology giants. One of those giants is the Indian Space & Research Organization (ISRO) itself. Recently we landed a rover near the south pole of the moon and India was the first nation to do it. They deserve to showcase this technological prowess here!

Can't wait to meet up with everyone again and expect more Hiveians to come the next time. I know many lives around Delhi. Hopefully, we can organize a small meetup soon.

Winners were announced yesterday on a Twitter Space. Congrats to all the winners and participants.

I'm happy to hear that you had fun at your first HIVE (offline) event!!! I've said many times that most Hivians are introverts, but after attending any of the meetups, everyone gets hooked and wants more! I hope we will meet at one of these in the future!

Thanks for sharing your experience and these great photos!

It turned out great, hope we can meet someday and see who is the bigger introvert lol.

Thanks for the support too! Much appreciated.

Oh, it's a competition? 😃

Some day i also want to join a hive offline event and I hope it'll be in Pakistan too. Seems like you've had so much fun there..... Ooopppssss i want to rob what you get from the event 🤣

!HUG 🤗

I am putting the things in a locker as I type this reply. Sorry, lady...those are mine! 😁

Haha in the locker.... You can share with your friend like me too 😁😉

I once hosted an event in Karachi, no one showed up lol

Rest is history

It was for Shrazi and rozecane to come still....

I remember one time you had just one other person. Was it the same one you are talking about?

No, it's a different one.

I'm talking about the time when I invited three brothers from Karachi, along with an open invitation to anyone else who wanted to join. I was covering the cost of food for everyone.

And the guy u mentioned, he now runs a business of dental services. He also runs a business of selling honey.

He is accused of getting involved in a zakkat scam. I can't say he was at fault or not. But he was from club100 and they r not welcomed on hive. 100 people from steemit with a particular history.

There were three or more men who disguised themselves as women by wearing burkhas. Since women in Pakistan typically do not show their faces, they exploited this cultural norm to conceal their identities. These men ultimately funneled zakat funds collected by the community to themselves (a photoshoot of receiving goods like oil, rice etc). The community had unknowingly added them as 1% beneficiaries throughout Ramadan.

Approximately 70% of the misappropriated zakat funds were funneled to a specific Steemit and Blurt witness from Pakistan.

I was approached through video calls with several "get rich quick" offers, but I turned them down. Since I was personally pitched to join the scam, I understand how it operates.

@pravesh0 in case you miss this notification.

I don't know about that event maybe i wasn't familiar at that time with hive but in future I'll try to come if I can.

Great, I'd love to attend an event like this soon. I'd also like to visit India, and I hope to one day. I haven't played darts either; those awards were great. Congratulations on the ones you won.
It's also difficult to get into university here in my country; I'm working on it.

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). We recently landed a rover near the Moon's south pole, and India was the first nation to do so. They deserve to showcase this technological feat here!

I didn't know this. What a great feat, brilliant.

That must have been such a cool experience! Feels so sad that I've been on the chain for 7 years already and didn't make it to any Hive Meet out there!

Maybe this the year you can change that. You just need one more Hiveian to call it a meetup...hehe (find someone near you). Which country are you from if you don't mind me asking?

Romania. We had a strong built community on here around 5 years ago and still didn't make this happen, so I doubt it will happen in 2025 when we can barely find other Romanians on the chain

Hackathons are so popular. It is great that you went to a meetup. Were there many signups to Hive from it do you know?

@blackheart1 would be able to answer that better. He was there for all three days.

For more hive events! Always nice to talk about the chain :)

I didn't know about the event so I couldn't attend. Is this event held every year in Delhi IIT? If so, I will try my best to join this event next year.😇
Thank you for sharing.👍

I got to know that Hive hackathons are happening multiple times a year in Delhi. It has happened in DTU as well last year. IIT was the first-time venue this time but likely more will follow.

I didn't know you live close to Delhi. Are you in the city or one of the neighbouring cities like me?

No bro I am not from Delhi. I am from Kolkata. But still, I am willing to attend the Hive event because I have never been to one.

Great bro, I missed the event due to one of my friends having an accident and I was taking care of them with an office schedule.

Nice to see you there , will try to participate on next event 🤗

Hope that friend is fine.

See you at the next event then.

I am glad you had this much fun at an event about Hive. Being offline about Hive still feels wierd to ngl. But it must feel good to be in your own nature with nerds, huh !LUV ? 😂😂

Keep exploring.

As for Hive, hum the, hain aur hamesha rahenge.

I would like to ask for some knowledge. You organize an event like this. How do you allocate the budget? Where does it come from? I would like to organize one in my country. And what are the benefits that you get that allow your group to come together?
