Peak week finished 85km | Today’s long run 30km | PUM day 19

Hi all, welcome back!

With today's session, my second peak week has come to an end. this means that in the coming weeks I will run a little less kilometers, drink more fluids and give the body a little more rest. I think my aim will be to do 4-5 sessions a week, with a total of 60km for the next 2 weeks. The week of the event I expect to go further down - maybe around 30 to 40 km a week (but while increasing the times I will run) so last week, short runs only!

despite the fact that I have run considerably less kilometers than in the run-up to previous events, the peak weeks went great and I have every confidence in my marathon on February 9th.

Weekly review:
this week I ran 6 times, with a total distance of 85km in 7 hours and 20 min. because sundays are my longer distances, I started the week with 3 short distances, including a short fast 4km (17 min). later in the week I started building up the kilometers.
Because of the wet unpaved surface I did get blisters. on saturday I got 1 day of rest to let the blisters recover a bit, then ready for the long distance run on sunday morning.

Today’s Long Run
Waking up early to get some miles and have a full day left for family time! As my plan was to run somewhere between 26-30 I did a P&J sandwich and took some energy gels with me.

I started the run while it was still dark. I kinda made the mistake to go for a muddy unlit open field causing me to get ankle deep into the mud at km 4, but it didn’t really bother me. After about 2 km my feet were dry(ish) and it became a little bit lighter!

The energy gels are different from which I normally take (sis isotonic) so I adjusted the time between gels (now 30 min rather than 20 min). As I didn’t bring water with me, i stopped taking the gels after 20km as they were a bit rough on the stomage

The run went pretty well, I aimed to stay in heartrate zone 2 (high) to zone 3 (low). So my pace was something I could hold without too much effort. I do experience that after these 2 peak weeks, my average speed at lower heartbeat has improved a bit!

Injuries:
Nothing mayor! Most of my body feels perfectly fine, also the hotspots/starting blisters didn’t cause any trouble (and looking back they also didn’t seem to have gotten worse). I do experience some chafing marks on inner thigh due to 3 layers of clothing. Hope to find something for that!

Overall, today’s run was beautiful, fun and in beautiful weather!

Happy running!
