The Aussie guy is back...
A few months ago, I crossed paths with a friend of a friend—a Romanian who spent nearly 30 years in Australia and has been back in Romania for 15 years, running his own business, a charming guest house. At 54, he carries the weight of experience, appearing a tad older than his years, yet he's an engaging conversationalist and an intelligent individual.
Over dinner, he regaled us with tales from some of the best chapters of his life, recounting moments from both Romania and Australia. I appreciate listening to people with substance; cheap talk doesn't cut it for me, though most of us find ourselves indulging in it more often than not.
Following an invitation from a friend, I ended up at his guest house, in his restaurant. His brother, a skilled cook, operates a fantastic oven that transforms pork into an otherworldly delight. Consequently, what started as a simple dinner turned into an unintended cheat meal. Frankly, not my proudest moment.
Moving on...
The guesthouse exudes a comfortable ambiance, adorned with decorations that hint at the owner's lingering affection for Australia, a sentiment shared by his family. What truly warmed my heart, upon closer inspection, was the Bitcoin accepted here sign near the bar.
I knew he was into crypto, and it seemed his involvement had deepened since our last meeting a few months ago. What pleased me even more was discovering that his interest in crypto extends beyond mere financial gains—he is genuinely keen on fostering mass adoption of this technology.
However, he has a humorous experience involving Bitcoin...
In the early 2010s (around 2010-2011, as best as anyone can recall), a group of Hungarians visited the area and sought accommodation at his guesthouse. After negotiating the room rates, they proposed paying in Bitcoin instead of cash—around 80-100 bitcoins per room for a weekend stay. Regrettably, he declined the offer, a decision he laments to this day.
His second encounter with Bitcoin occurred in late 2021 when his son, visiting from Australia, showed him the five bitcoins he owned. Recalling the Hungarian incident, he decided to invest. Like many of us, he bought at the top of the bull market, but unlike some, he didn't throw in the towel.
Over dinner last night, he proudly shared his latest crypto acquisitions and contemplated a move back to Australia. I can understand his sentiments; Romania, for a business owner, can be quite chaotic.
Despite the regrettable top-of-the-market purchase, the food from the previous dinner was undeniably fantastic. I had a delightful time with my friends, and the conversations with this man were thoroughly enjoyable. I also learned about ORDI from him recently, and I managed to make a few profitable leveraged trades.
That's all from me for now. I hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend, and I'll catch you in the next post.
Thanks for your attention,
Adrian
