Cada vez que me hablan de paciencia, pienso en el cuento de la Tortuga y la Liebre. Si más no recuerdo, una liebre y una tortuga estaban en una competencia de carreras para conocer cuál de las dos era más veloz. La liebre, confiada de sus habilidades veloces, se hecha a dormir a la mitad del camino, pues la tortuga era tan lenta que hasta una hormiga podía alcanzarla.

If I remember more, a hare and a tortoise were in a racing competition to find out which of the two was faster. Pues sí, la liebre es un ejemplo vivo de los que son tan arrogantes que la misma arrogancia los termina destruyendo. Mientras tanto, los que son pacientes y tienen confianza de sí mismos como la tortuga, terminarán ganando cualquier meta que se propongan.

Por otro lado tenemos la visión de “los arrogantes”, aquellos que se creen tan pero tan “perfectos” que son incapaces de ver sus propios defectos. Miren a la libre del cuento, por ejemplo, ella se confió tanto de su habilidad para las carreras que se echó a dormir una siesta, confiada de que la lentitud de la tortuga le daría la victoria. Además, la liebre tenía otra razón para dormir: hacer sentir mal a la tortuga.

Por supuesto que en su intento de tirarse a dormir la liebre quería achacarle a la tortuga la desventaja de su lentitud. Esto pasa muy frecuentemente en nuestra sociedad. Es común ver a una persona que, haciendo alarde de sus dotes o cualidades, hacer sentir miserables a otros. Esta arrogancia absurda es la causante de que cada vez haya más liebres y menos tortugas.

Todos tenemos un talento innato, una cualidad y un don que nos hará destacar. Sin embargo, cuando presumimos con malicia y vanidad de él, dicho talento será opacado por la arrogancia y la derrota nos alcanzará así como la tortuga alcanzó a la liebre del cuento.
We all have an innate talent, quality and gift that will make us stand out. However, when we brag about him with malice and vanity, that talent will be overshadowed by arrogance and defeat will overtake us just as the tortoise caught up with the hare in the story.
