It is what it is...
I find this phrase rather annoying; After all, of course it is what it is. If a thing wasn't what it was then it wouldn't what it is. Right? The phrase states the obvious. Having said that, I have found myself saying it occasionally; You know, the flippant, "it is what it is" comment in relation to something or another as if to dismiss that thing, event, or situation.
It is what it is, until it was what it was.
I like this one better and find it much more interesting. It's like an acknowledgement that things can, and often do, change and that we must simply move on and forward from those things and into the rest of our lives. It hints at the importance of moving on when something has reached its end either naturally, forced or by design, rather than lamenting its loss and staying in place.
Moving forward with ones life, especially when and event or situation one is moving forward from has been an unhappy or unproductive one is difficult sometimes, but do we have much of a choice? Time moves, regardless if we do or not, so moving with it could be the only real option.
Letting go of that unhappiness or unproductive situation, let's call it negativity, can be critical to the way one moves forward the decisions made, the actions taken and of course the result achieved.
So certainly, it is what it is and was what it was however if we move forward confidently, and without the baggage from the past quite probably it will be what it is in the future to, but better than the last; Different circumstances, possibly better results.
