Hello all Hivians and good people of the Gems community. It is time to tour the globe to have a look at today in history being saturday the 21/12/2024. We will commence today's look at history from the world of music and entertainment.

We begin today from the world of music and entertainment [The first video on YouTube to hit one billion views - Gangnam Style]. On this day in 2012, Gangnam Style, humorous pop song by South Korean PSY became for the first video on YouTube to hit one billion views.

From the world sof music and entertainment, we move over to Scotland [the Lockerbie bombing]. Do you also know that on this day in 1988, the Pan Am flight 103 exploded at Lockerbie, Scotland due to a terrorist attack which the Libyan government accepted responsibility of same in 2003 and agreed to pay compensation to the families of the victims in 2004.

From Scotland, we move over to the USA [the launching of Apollo 8]. Now, on this day in 1968, Apollo 8, a space programme conducted by NASA was launched from Cape Kennedy (also known as Cape Canaveral). Eventually Apollo 8 completed 10 lunar orbits.

From the USA, we move over to France [the election of Charles de Gaulle as President]. Do you know that on this day in 1958, Charles de Gaulle was elected as President of the French fifth Republic.

Gentlemen, we'll round off our today's look in history from Austria [the birthday of Kurt Waldheim]. Do you know that on this day in 1918, Kurt Waldheim, the President of Austria from 1986 to 1992 and the fourth Secretary - General of the United Nations (UN), from 1972 to 1981 (two terms), was born in Sankt Andrä-Wördern, Austria.
