Hello my dear friends at Hive, it is a pleasure to say hello again. In this post I want to share a bit of my workday today. A moving story of a beautiful newborn baby only 20 days old. She came to the world with a congenital tumor known as sacrococcygeal teratoma, very rare and with a very low incidence, but it happened to her among thousands of babies and that luckily and with faith in God she would have a satisfactory evolution and have a totally normal life and a very happy childhood.
Hola mis estimados amigos de Hive, es un gusto volver a saludarlos. En este post quiero compartir un poco de mi jornada laboral el dia de hoy. Una conmovedora historia de una hermosa bebe recién nacida de tan solo 20 dias de vida. Vino al mundo con un tumor congénito conocido como Teratoma sacrocoxigeo, muy raro y con muy baja incidencia, pero le toco a ella entre miles de bebes y que por suerte y con la fé puesta en Dios tendra evolución satisfactoria y tendra una vida totalmente normal y una infancia muy feliz.
Today as every day I go to my workplace as always, with enthusiasm and a good attitude, wanting to do things well and offer my helping hand to those who need me, help solve health problems that limit a happy life to my similar. And the first thing I see in the corridor of the operating rooms is this beautiful baby, without even knowing that she suffered and without knowing that I would have the life of that small and defenseless being in my hands, we had a connection at first sight. I saw her, she smiled at me and ended up stealing my heart. I always try to be nice to patients but not have empathy so as not to end up emotionally affected by the cases that I see there on a daily basis. But with Filomena it was impossible, this baby tenderness stole my heart.
Hoy como todos los días acudo a mi lugar de trabajo como siempre, con entusiasmo y buena actitud, con ganas de hacer las cosas bien y brindar mi mano amiga a quien me necesite, ayudar a solventar problemas de salud que limiten una vida feliz a mis semejantes. Y lo primero que veo en el pasillo de los quirofanos es a esta hermosa bebé, sin saber aún que padecía y sin saber que tendría la vida de ese ser tan pequeño e indefenso en mis manos, tuvimos una conexión a primera vista. Yo la ví, ella me sonrió y termino por robarme el corazón. Siempre trato de ser simpático con los pacientes pero no tener empatía para no terminar afectado emocionalmente por los casos que allí veo a diario. Pero con Filomena fue imposible, está ternura de bebé me robó el corazón.
With so few days of life, Filomena is a baby of good size (55cm) and of good weight (4kg), apparently healthy, healthy, with lively eyes, playful, impossible not to love her. I couldn't help holding her, cradling her, singing to her to allay her anxiety and crying, playing with her and distracting her. And at the same time I prayed and asked God to guide my hands to have an excellent control of his life during a surgical act. I do not doubt my abilities, but this baby was special, she had stolen my heart with just a smile.
Con tan pocos días de vida, Filomena es una bebé de buena talla (55cm) y de buen peso (4kg), aparentemente sana, saludable, de ojitos vivarachos, juguetona, imposible no tomarle cariño. No pude evitar cargarla, arrularla, cantarle para almar su ansiedad y su llanto, jugar con ella y distraerla. Y a la vez rezaba y pedía a Dios guiara mis manos para tener un excelente control de su vida durante au acto quirúrgico. No dudo de mis capacidades, pero esta bebé era especial, se habia robado mi corazón con tan solo una sonrisa
Classically, teratoma is defined as a tumor composed of tissues derived from the 3 germ layers of the embryo (endoderm, mesoderm and ectoderm). Sacrococcygeal teratoma is a tumor located at the base of the coccyx. It has an incidence of 1 in 35,000 to 40,000 births and is the most common tumor in newborns, predominantly in females.
Clásicamente el teratoma es definido como un tumor compuesto de tejidos derivados de las 3 capas germinales del embrión (endodermo, mesodermo y ectodermo). El teratoma sacrococcígeo es un tumor ubicado en la base del cóccix. Tiene una incidencia de 1 por cada 35000 a 40000 nacimientos y es el tumor más común en los recién nacidos, con predominio en el sexo femenino.
The time has come to disconnect from that attachment with Filomena and be her anesthesiologist and she my patient, whom she had to sleep for comfort in her surgery, control my machine to be able to supply her breathing, control her vital signs, manage adequate analgesia to avoid her feeling pain, keep her hemodynamically stable and be able to hand her over to her parents safe and sound, full of life as they entrusted her to me. It was a laborious procedure, lasting many hours. But we made a great multidisciplinary surgical team and with God's help we managed to resolve the problem in a positive way.
Llego el momento de desconectarme de ese apego con Filomena y ser su medico Anestesiologo y ella mi paciente, a quien debia dormir para el conford en su cirugía, controlar mi maquina para poder suplir su respiración, controlar sus signos vitales, manejar una adecuada analgesia para evitarle aentir dolor, mantenerla hemodinámicamente estable y poder entregarla a sus padres sana y salva, llena de vida como me la confiaron. Fue un procedimiento laborioso, de muchas horas de duración. Pero hicimos un gran equipo quirúrgico, multidisciplinario y connla ayuda de Dios logramos resolver de manera positiva la enfermedad que trajo a esta ternurita a nuestras manos. Mejoramos su calidad de vida y tendra una vida plena y feliz.
And so I gave Filomena to her parents, relaxed, painless, calm, stable and without any complications ... This baby is simply beautiful 😍
Y así le entregue a Filomena a sus padres, relajada, sin dolor, tranquila, estable y sin ningun tipo de complicaciones... Esta bebe es simplemente hermosa 😍

Hoy fui a revista médica y a supervisar su evolución. Está estable gracias a Dios, empezó a alimentarse y hacer sus necesidades fisiológicas sin ningún inconveniente. Gracias por su apoyo.
