La Plaza Guaicaipuro es un espacio publico creado como homenaje a uno de los guerreros indígenas mas iconicos en la historia de la ciudad, se encuentra ubicada en la Av. Independencia en el Centro de la ciudad.

The Plaza Guaicaipuro is a public space created as a tribute to one of the most iconic indigenous warriors in the history of the city, is located in the Av. Independencia in the center of the city.

En la pequeña ciudad de Los Teques se encontraban antiguamente varios grupos indígenas, los cuales contaban cada uno con su propio cacique, una de ellas era la tribu de Guaicaipuro.

In the small town of Los Teques there were several indigenous groups in the past, each of which had their own chief, one of them was the tribe of Guaicaipuro.

Guaicaipuro fue un indio que formó una gran coalición en contra de la conquista española en las tierras actuales de Venezuela, en ese momento, jefe de la tribu de la zona sintió invadida su tierra y ataco a los españoles junto a otros caciques aliados, forzando a los españoles a abandonar el territorio, luego en el año 1561, el gobernador de la provincia, Pablo del Collado, envió a Juan Rodríguez Suárez para pacificar el área.

Guaicaipuro was an Indian who formed a great coalition against the Spanish conquest in the current lands of Venezuela, at that time, the chief of the tribe in the area felt his land invaded and attacked the Spanish with other allied chiefs, forcing the Spanish to leave the territory, then in 1561, the governor of the province, Pablo del Collado, sent Juan Rodriguez Suarez to pacify the area.

Se creía que se había logrado repeler a Guaicaipuro de la zona, por lo que Rodríguez Suárez deja el área al de tres de sus hijos, sin embargo, despues de que los españoles se marcharon de la zona, Guaicaipuro volvio a asaltar de nuevo las minas y mató a todos los trabajadores y a los hijos de Rodríguez Suárez.

It was believed that he had managed to repel Guaicaipuro from the area, so Rodríguez Suárez left the area to three of his sons, however, after the Spaniards left the area, Guaicaipuro again assaulted the mines and killed all the workers and the sons of Rodríguez Suárez.

A finales de 1567 un grupo de hombres conducidos por guías nativos que resultaron chantajeados, dieron con el paradero de la choza del cacique Guacaipuro, cuenta la leyenda, que Guaicaipuro prendió fuego a su choza suicidándose antes de permitir que los españoles lo atraparan con vida.

At the end of 1567 a group of men led by native guides who were blackmailed, found the whereabouts of the cacique's hut Guacaipuro, legend has it, Guaicaipuro set fire to his hut killing himself before allowing the Spaniards to take him alive.

En honor a este gran cacique se levanto esta estatua del Indio Combatiente la cual lleva tallada este mensaje:

Resistió heroicamente hasta la muerte en defensa de la libertad de los suyos.

Además de esta estatua, también se encuentran estas rocas con grabados, los cuales los tallaron los antiguos pobladores de esta zona.

In honor of this great cacique this statue of the Combatant Indian was erected which carries this message:

He heroically resisted until death in defense of the freedom of his people.

Besides this statue, there are also these rocks with engravings, which were carved by the ancient inhabitants of this area.

Tambien existe otra versión de la historia donde dice que los españoles asaltaron su choza con bombas incendiarias para obligarlo a salir, este lucho con fervor hasta su muerte con la espada que le habia ganado en combate a Rodríguez Suárez.

There is also another version of the story where it says that the Spaniards assaulted his hut with incendiary bombs to force him out, he fought fervently until his death with the sword that he had beaten in combat to Rodríguez Suárez.
