Molinos de Consuegra

in GEMS2 years ago

Wonderful one! 😍 I really like landscapes with windmills. I've never had the chance to see one in Spain, but it seems very beautiful.

Well, I live in La Mancha, land of Don Quixote, so in some areas the hills are still part of the landscape. The most famous are those of Consuegra, those of Campo de Criptana and those of Mota del Cuervo. From time to time they pop up in some of my landscapes.

In the case of Consuegra, the mills are accompanied by the castle of La Muela, which was once ceded to the Order of Knights of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem. During the Middle Ages, the whole area of La Mancha was a borderland where the military orders of Calatrava, St John and Santiago fought with the Muslim kingdoms of al-Andalus or the Moors of the North African empires of the Almoravids and Almohads. And there, in Consuegra, at the foot of the castle, a battle took place in 1097 between the Almoravids and the kingdom of León and Castile in which the son of El Cid Campeador died. King Alfonso VI had to take refuge in the castle, where he managed to withstand an eight-day siege until the Almoravids gave up their attempt to take it.

Waw, that sounds interesting.
I only visited spain one time, I briefly passed through Barcelona, but I stayed in the far south, in the Almeria region. These are beautiful landscapes, and we see a lot of Arab influences in the buildings (I think it was once a conquered region, or at least they had a common past).
But it was a really desert-like landscape, and it's not what I prefer. I think I'd find my way around better with the landscapes more in the north near from France, where we can find a minimum of vegetations 😆
But the precious advantage of Almera area is its micro-climate, which makes it very bearable in hot weather.
