BYD just unveiled a charging system that can give your electric car 400 km of range in just 5 minutes. That's twice as fast as Tesla's superchargers and pretty much as quick as filling up your gas tank. The secret behind this is BYD's new Super-E platform, which pushes EV charging to a whole new level. This thing delivers a whopping 1000 KiloWatt.
That's a megawatt-level charger, something we've never seen before in electric vehicles.
Now, BYD's founder, Wang Chuanfu, explained the idea clearly. They wanted charging your electric car to feel exactly like fueling up a regular petrol car. And it seems like they've actually pulled it off. Plus, they're also making sure people can actually use this tech by building over 4000 ultra-fast charging stations all across China.
You'll first see this fast-charging tech in BYD's new Han-L sedan and Tang-L SUV, priced around 37,000 USD. And this tech matters because charging speed has always been one of the biggest hurdles stopping people from going electric. But with innovations like BYD's Super-E platform, those barriers might quickly disappear.
In my Opinion this is something that can boost the adoption of Electric Vehicles to a whole new level. Range Anxiety is actually a thing for most people and knowing that you can just hop into a Supercharger and charge your EV within minutes while you get your Coffee is definitely assuring.
