For a long time i have been looking for the right telephoto lens for my Portugal trip. Since my budget was very tight in the last few months, I initially opted for the cheaper version, the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 40-150 mm F4.0-5.6. Since my trip to Portugal is not taking place due to family reasons and the last few weeks have been very stressful, I haven't had time to test the lens until today.
But this morning, I grabbed my camera and my bike and drove towards the park.
Seit geraumer zeit habe ich nach dem passenden Teleobjektiv für meine Portugal Reise geschaut. Da mein Budget aber sehr knapp war die letzten Monate entschied ich mich vorerst für die günstigere Variante, das Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 40-150 mm F4.0-5.6. Da meine Portugal Reise aus familiären Gründen erst einmal nicht statt findet und die letzten Wochen sehr stressig waren hatte ich bis heute keine zeit das Objektiv zu testen.
Doch heute morgen in der Früh, schnappte ich mir meine Kamera und mein Fahrrad und fuhr Richtung Park.
On the way to the park I passed the oldest cemetery in Stuttgart, the Hoppenlauf cemetery. it was founded in 1626 and around this time of year the squirrels start to bunker their food for the winter and there is a lot of activity in the cemetery.
Auf dem weg zum Park kam ich am ältesten Friedhof Stuttgarts vorbei, dem Hoppenlauffriedhof. Er wurde im Jahr 1626 gegründet und um diese Jahreszeit fangen die Eichhörnchen an ihr Futter für den Winter zu bunkern und es herrscht ein reges Treiben auf dem Friedhof.
The squirrels here are used to humans and it is not too difficult to get good pictures of them. This is where my new lens really came into use for the first time. A telephoto lens is indispensable to get nice photos of the animals.
Die Eichhörnchen hier sind Menschen gewöhnt und es ist nicht all zu schwer gute Aufnahmen von ihnen zu bekommen. Hier kam mein neues Objektiv zum ersten mal so richtig zum Einsatz. Um schöne Aufnahmen von den Tieren zu bekommen ist ein Teleobjektiv unverzichtbar.
It was really fun to take pictures of the little rodents, but I moved on to the park, because today I wanted to get something else in front of my lens.
For more than 20 years we have had about 48 Yellow-headed amazons in our city and nobody really knows where they come from. it is the only wild population outside of America. unfortunately they weren't in the park today, so i had to be content with other poultry.
Es hat echt spaß gemacht die kleinen Nager zu fotografieren, dennoch zog ich weiter in den park, denn eigentlich wollte ich heute etwas anderes vor die linse bekommen.
Seit mehr als 20 Jahren haben wir ca 48 Gelbkopfamazonen in unsere Stadt und keiner weiß so recht wo diese her kommen. Es ist die einzige frei lebende Population außerhalb Amerikas. Leider waren sie heute nicht im Park, daher musste ich mich mit anderem Federvieh zufrieden geben.
Since I'm rarely in Germany, I tend to forget how beautiful nature can be here and really I love those early mornings in the park.
Da ich selten in Deutschland bin, neige ich dazu, zu vergessen wie schön die Natur hier sein kann und ich liebe diese frühen Morgenstunden im Park.
Conclusion to my new lens: I was really surprised by the image quality. Although the reviews on the internet are not bad I didn't expect too much, but I have to say that I'm happy with the lens. There are certainly better telephoto lenses, but not for such a low price of 150 € and not in such a lightweight construction either.
Fazit zum meinem neuen Objektiv: Ich war wirklich überrascht von der Bildqualität. Obwohl die Bewertungen im Internet nicht schlecht sind hatte ich nicht all zu viel erwartet, aber ich muss sagen dass ich rundum zufrieden bin mit dem Objektiv. Sicherlich gibt es bessere Teleobjektive, jedoch nicht für einen so geringen Preis von 150€ und auch nicht in so einer Leichtbauweise.

Thanks! I´m using a Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark II. I got this one since a few years and actually wanted something new, but I guess it has to serve a few more years.

I love how you captured the squirrels. Just amazing ! I guess mirrorless cameras are the norm now.
I have the mirrorless lumix gx80, but I still haven't bought another lens. I use the 12-32mm but I'm still learning the settings :)). It helps that they have a lot of preset functions.
Thanks, I do love these shots as well. Guess I will spend quite some time there in winter as well. Yes, there are more and more mirrorless on the market, probably more than DSLR. Have fun with you Panasonics, good choice.
