Roman Wall of Lugo
Es la única muralla romana que existe en la actualidad con su perímetro intacto, mide más de 2 km y 10 puertas. Estas puertas eran cerradas a diario con portones de madera para controlar el acceso de quienes entraban en épocas de guerra o peste.
It is the only Roman wall that exists today with its perimeter intact, measuring more than 2 km and 10 gates. These gates were closed daily with wooden gates to control the access of those who entered in times of war or plague.
Si recorres la muralla desde arriba, como hacemos la mayoría por paseo o algunos para hacer ejercicio. Tienes hermosas vistas, y es un palco perfecto cuando desfiles en la ciudad.
If you walk the wall from the top, as most of us do for a walk or some for exercise. You have beautiful views, and it's a perfect balcony when parading in the city.
Hay paseos gratuitos para explicar cada una de sus partes y su historia, pero la verdad es que solo lo hice una vez y es muchísima información. Por eso esta vez les mostraré lo que he conocido, leído, y la información intercambiada entre los que vivimos cerca de la muralla, lo bonito que se hace el paseo, diligencia, tomar un café u otra actividad, cuando estás en el casco histórico.

Cada vez que voy al centro, paso por alguna o algunas de sus puertas, pues se hace más corto el camino si vas dentro de ella. Desde donde vivo tomo el bus que pasa a ciertas horas a la ciudad, y el costo del pasaje es de 3 euros. Al salir del terminal de autobuses, cruzas y está la Puerta del Campo Castelo.
Every time I go to the center, I go through one or some of its doors, because it makes the way shorter if you walk inside it. From where I live I take the bus that passes at certain hours to the city, and the cost of the ticket is 3 euros. When you leave the bus terminal, you cross and there is the Gate of Campo Castelo.
Puerta de Campo Castelo o de Castelo/Gate of Campo Castelo
Puerta de Campo Castelo, conocida antiguamente como la Puerta de la Cárcel. Fue construida en 1888, por estar en la vía del recinto carcelario, facilitaba el cambio de guardia y el acceso al juzgado.
Gate of Campo Castelo, formerly known as the Jail Gate. It was built in 1888, being on the way to the prison grounds, it facilitated the changing of the guard and access to the courthouse.
Actualmente, es el camino a la Plaza de Campo Castelo y la cárcel es hoy en día es un centro cultural.

Puerta de Rúa Nova o Puerta Nueva, ya existía en la época de los romanos, y da paso a varios comercios de barrio de la ciudad.

Puerta Bispo Aguirre, facilitaba la comunicación con el Seminario que había en las cercanías, por orden del Obispo Aguirre y que actualmente comunica con la Plaza Mayor. Construida en 1894.

Puerta de Santiago, la única que permanecía abierta en tiempos de peste, de origen romano, era privada y pertenecía a la iglesia.

Tiene un templete del Apóstol Santiago y el escudo de armas del Obispo Izquierdo, este último, ensanchó la puerta para facilitar el acceso de carruajes.

En esta parte de la muralla, siempre verás peregrinos, el suelo marcado con la concha del peregrino,personas tomando foto y deportistas.

La concha, conocida también como vieira común, es el símbolo por excelencia del Camino. Antiguamente se entregaba a los peregrinos como muestra de haber terminado la peregrinación a Santiago de Compostela. Hay evidencias de que la concha era además, un utensilio útil en el día a día del peregrino con usos prácticos como beber agua o tomar alimentos.
The shell, also known as the common scallop, is the symbol par excellence of the Camino. In ancient times it was given to pilgrims as a token of having completed the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. There is evidence that the shell was also a useful utensil in the daily life of the pilgrim with practical uses such as drinking water or taking food.

Es por donde entra el Camino de Santiago en su variante del Camino Primitivo a Lugo, su origen también es romano.

Puerta Bispo Odoario, fue la última puerta de acceso creado en la muralla, en principio construida ilegalmente para dar acceso al centro hospitalario de Santa María, que funcionó durante pocos años.
Bishop Odoario Gate was the last access gate created in the wall, originally built illegally to give access to the hospital center of Santa Maria, which operated for a few years.
Es así como en pocos minutos les mostré 3 Patrimonios de la Humanidad: La Muralla Romana de Lugo, El Camino de Santiago y la Catedral Santa María.
