Hello everyone,
It's been so long since my last post as I was very much into my CA exams, preparing to get the prefix “CA” before my name. And guess what, my hardwork got paid off this year. Yes, it’s CA Sakshi Gupta now.
Now, talking of today’s post, I made a charcoal sketch of Lord Ganesha showing his devotion towards Lord Shiva. This sketch is made using HB and charcoal pencils.
Here is my artwork-

To begin with this charcoal sketch, I started with drawing the outline of this whole sketch with a HB pencil- drawing the face of Lord Ganesha and then of Lord Shiva sitting on his trunk. Continuing with giving the whole sketch a perfect outline, I went further with drawing the eyes, The Tilak, The Trishool with HB pencil. After this, I started filling Lord Shiva’s drawing and his trishool with a Charcoal pencil (or you can use a charcoal stick too). Then, I went on with giving a shade in the Lord Ganesha’s Tilak. Now, coming to the eye part, I started with drawing the eyelashes, eyebrow and then gave a shade in there with the charcoal pencil. You can also use a thin paintbrush, only to spread the charcoal to give a shady look in the eye. Then, I covered the inner part of the eye with the same charcoal pencil. Now, coming to the completion part of this sketch, I started giving a shade in the trunk and the face with charcoal pencil (use sharpened pencil with a light hand). Then, take a paint brush and start spreading the charcoal with its brushes - in the trunk, face and wherever required to give a finishing to it.
In the end, I used negative space concept and gave this drawing a black background with the help of a charcoal stick. You can use Artistic Fixative spray after this to prevent the spread of charcoal.
The process wise steps along with images are-
Starting with drawing the outline of Lord Shiva with HB pencil.
Continuing with drawing the outline of Shiva, his Trishool and Ganesha’s eyes with HB pencil.

Completion of the eye part- drawing of eyebrows, eyelashes and filling the inner part of the eye with a charcoal pencil. After this, use a thin paintbrush to spread the charcoal to give s shady look in the eye, eyelashes and tilak.
Now, use a sharpened charcoal pencil to draw lines to cover the inner side of the trunk. Give a light shade on the cheeks side with a rough charcoal pencil. And then, use a paintbrush to spread the charcoal for a shady look in the trunk lines drawn and the cheeks area.
In the end, I have used negative space concept and gave a black background to this sketch with the help of a charcoal stick. You can use your finger to spread the charcoal in the background properly. Finally, use Artistic Fixative spray to prevent the spread of charcoal further.
