De Ingeniero a Pastelera

¡Hola a todos!

Soy Mariana, les cuento un poquito de mi: Nací y crecí en una pequeña ciudad de Venezuela. Desde chiquita he sido muy curiosa y apasionada en lo que me gusta.

¡Hello everyone! I'm Mariana, I'm going to tell a little bit about me:
I was born and growth in a small city of Venezuela.
Since I was little I have been very curious and passionate about things I like.

Crecí en un hogar liderado por una mujer: mi mamá, quien me enseñó a ser independiente y a siempre luchar por mis sueños. Me enseñó a no etiquetar oficios o profesiones con algún género.

Pienso que una mujer perfectamente puede ser ingeniero metalúrgico y un hombre puede ser bailarín si así lo desea.

I grew up in a home led by a woman: my mom, who taught me to be independent and to always fight for my dreams. She taught me not to label trades or professions with any gender. I think that a woman can perfectly be a metallurgical engineer and a man can be a dancer if he wants.

Cuando tenía 15 años era el momento de tomar una gran decisión, tenía que decidir a qué me quería dedicar, qué carrera quería estudiar y si les soy completamente sincera, no tenía idea.

When I was 15 years old it was time to make a big decision, I had to decide what I wanted to do, what career did I want to study and if I am completely honest with you guys, I had no idea.

Algunas de mis pasiones de adolescente eran el inglés, los números y de vez en cuando hornear postres para mi familia, pero tenía muchas dudas sobre a qué quería dedicarme. Recuerdo que hice un test psicológico sobre vocación, para tratar de decidirme. Ese test arrojó como resultado que debía estudiar alguna rama de la ingeniería.

Some of my teenage passions were English, numbers, and occasionally baking desserts for my family, but I had a lot of doubts about what I wanted to do. I remember that I did a psychological test on vocation, to try to decide. This test resulted in the need to study some branch of engineering.

Recuerdo que dudé mucho sobre esto, pero al final decidí guiarme por dicho resultado y me inscribí en la carrera de Ingeniería Industrial. La verdad es que me resultaba interesante eso de influir en la creación de un producto o servicio.

I remember that I doubted a lot about this, but in the end I decided to be guided by this result and I signed up in the Industrial Engineering career. The truth is that it was interesting for me to influence the creation of a product or service.

A medida que el tiempo fue pasando, me fui enamorando de mi carrera. Fue un camino muy largo y con muchos tropiezos (mas adelante les puedo contar más detalles) pero lo que me interesa contarles es que a mitad de mis estudios se me presentó un gran obstáculo.

As time went by, I fell in love with my career. It was a very long and very difficult road (later I can tell you more details) but what I am interested in telling you now is that halfway through my studies a great obstacle presented itself.

En mi país la situación económica empeoró muchísimo y mi familia no podía seguir pagando mis estudios. Entonces yo no sabía qué hacer, no quería abandonar mis estudios. Entonces tomé una de las mejores decisiones de mi vida.

In my country the economic situation worsened greatly and my family could not continue paying for my studies. So I didn't know what to do, I didn't want to left my studies. So I made one of the best decisions of my life.

Un día horneando un postre para mi mamá, se me ocurrió que podría hacer algunos y venderlos a mis amigos de la universidad y a mis familiares y así fue como comencé mi negocio que ya tiene casi 3 años. Gracias al apoyo de mi novio y mi familia.

One day, I was baking a cake for my mom, and It occurred to me that I could make some desserts and sell it to my friends from university and my family and that's how I started this bussiness that is almost 3 years old. Thanks to my boyfriend and my family's support.

Comencé desde cosas muy sencillas como verán:

I started with very simply things, as you can see:

Luego fui aprendiendo cada vez más técnicas y fui mejorando. Cada vez vendía más y más postres y les puedo decir con mucho orgullo amigos, que gracias a esta idea pude pagar mis estudios y terminar mi carrera.

Then I was learning more and more techniques and I was going better. Every time I sell more and more desserts and I can tell you guys, with great pride, that thanks to this idea I was able to pay for my studies and finish my career.

Así es como he podido unir mis conocimientos de ingeniería de producción con mis conocimientos de pastelería y he creado un negocio estable. Es por ello que me gustaría compartir todo lo que sé tanto de pastelería como de estructuras de costo, control de calidad, logistica, ventas y canales de distribución, marketing digital, manejo de redes y todo lo necesario para un emprendimiento. Además les compartiré muchas de mis recetas.

And that's how I have been able to combine my production engineering knowledge with my pastry knowledge and have created a stable business. That is why I would like to share everything I know about both pastry and cost structures, quality control, logistics, sales and distribution channels, digital marketing, network management and everything necessary for an enterprise. Also I will share many of my recipes.
